K, I can't believe I am doing this, but the help you give to others, has inspired me to type this out. I guess its one of those Light Bulb Moments.
I am a border line alcoholic.
Cripes I have typed it. And ironically its true
My one complaint about strongbow, was thats its weaker, not so strong. I love the taste of it, but i dont need the 'effects of it'. But how many folks drink 2-3 pints of liquid - coffee, pop, water, wine / drink a nite. Thats about average of what folks drink from coming home home to going to bed ......
I also can do 1-3 nites a week with no drink what so ever, which makes me think I am not a definite candiate for AA just yet. But I could easily top over.
I have had some serious RL issues recently, which hasnt help things -accepting my bro will not talk to me (despite probs with mum - chip of the old block symdrone), redudancies, new management - total organisation style, working alone far too much etc, a new roof and the insurance co not paying out for the wind damage. Yes these are causes which havent helped, and I am accepting the fact that they have not helped things.
So, I guess I am writtng this to try and start a journey. OF NOT needing to go to AA.
Are there any websites / orgs for those who cld topple over that edge? Any assistance like those smokers have - patches etc?
Oh crap, I had better submit this before I change my mind.
from a lover Cider, who wished it was a hell lot weaker

AnonLass, there's a great thread on the Debt Free diaries board, for people who want to cut down on their drinking. Why don't you read a little of that? I lurk on it now and again, have found it helpful and interesting.0

Completely out of the blue, and no idea if this would work, but why not buy some fizzy apple juice (or even just normal apple juice, but a sourer one I would guess), and mix, half and half (or less alcohol). I would hope the flavour would stay similar enough, and yet you easily cut the alcohol content down.
Just be careful not to start doing it every night of the week to make up.0 -
There are some low alcohol, or zero alcohol ciders... you should try to find those and see if you like the taste.
There's even an apple lager which you can get at Tesco that's 0%.0 -
I started drinking way too much about ten years ago. In 2007 I decided to give my liver a rest, and stopped drinking altogether. It was supposed to be for a few months, but I felt so much better that I have been teetotal ever since. I did miss the taste of wine however, and like you I enjoyed a glass of cider. I discovered a company which sells de-alcholised wine, beer and a really really good de-alcholised cider - less than o.5% alcohol content. I don't think I'm allowed to post details but I will pm them to you (and to anyone else who asks.0

Good luck. whatever you do. I can only suggest you are honest with yourself.
I think that maybe you could look at what a definition of an alky is. as far as i know it isnt someone who drinks every day all day bit someone who has little to no control over what they drink once they begin. and/or cannot stop should they want to.If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.0 -
I would like the details posted too, please sulk.
I like cider; but find I get drunk too quickly on it. I would like to enjoy without getting drunk so quickly.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

I didnt know if this was the right 'folder' on MSE, so pls move its in the wrong-un.
I think one of my main concerns, is that I just love the taste, the fizzle on the tongue of SB.
Gd thing I dont like the shorts, lagers (other than spanish or chinese = expensive), so i just stick to SB and the occasional wine.
My cellar has had 10-15 bottles inc 3 bottles of champaigne for celebrations. Its rare that I buy wine (only on mse offers), and the champs. Well the last bottle, i drank was to celebrate my enagement with the BMs and BtM etc, back in, cripes 11 mths ago. The others are still safe and sound waiting for another occasion.
Raggs & Pasture - any recommendations wld be great

Actually there is loads on that website. I started thinking about the amount I was drinking at Xmsa time and why I had to drink every day with friends, why I couldn't say 'no'. So I started trying to cut it out during the week which worked quite well until Thursday became the weekend as well and I'd have one glass. It was the advert for this NHS campaign that made me think really hard, in conjunction with getting hideously drunk at an awards ceremony three weeks ago. It was a totally rare occurence but I realised that the tie it took me to recover, I could have really done my body some damage - in fact I probably did!
I like the taste and I don't really enjoy being 'drunk' and my drinking I think probably hovered around the recommended limit, sometimes over. It's not been very long but my attitude is changing. I've realised that even though it would be one large glass of an evening, two or three evenings in the week, plus a bit more at weekends, one glass was enough to keep me company and create a little bubble for me. I have a friend who was talking about 'normal' and it really shocked me what they thought 'normal' was (a lot more than I was drinking) but we create our own 'normal'. And our own 'normal' = 'acceptable'
It's true, most of us won't drink that amount of another beverage of an evening and find it hard to fill the gap that alcohol leaves, so it must be about something more than the taste of it. I haven't touched a drop at home in three weeks. I am thinking perhaps I need to keep it that way unless it's a special occassion. If I want a drink then I should take myself out to go and get one in an establishment of some kind - make it more inconvenient for myself. When I stopped in the week, I took to doing a lot of housework of an evening to occupy me. H thought I'd gone crazy. Safe to say that I've settled down somewhat!
It's not good for your body and we do kid ourselves about how much damage we are doing to our insides because we can't see it. If you think you are probably drinking a bit more than you should, then you probably are. It's like a security blanket, even if you don't get wasted.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
