Looking for a bit of knowledge if possible,
Towards Xmas my 3 bed semi had a leak in the roof caused by all the natural deterioration of the membrane, having gained a few quotes i went with a company that had some good reviews.
The roofer who came round was a sub contractor and said that he would make the roof water tight and provide a 15 year gaurentee without the need to replace the roof.
The work gets done and i hand over 1700 quid, a few weeks later my tenent notices water still coming in through the joists and all thats been done is membrane battened with 2 x 1 onto the joists with water leaking inbetween.
I rang the company who said they have now sacked the individual (reasons unknown), and they sent another roofer around said that i need a new roof and it will cost 4200, the company also state that they accept the job wasnt up to standard and they will take off 1700 from the final price.
Sorry its a long one but where do i stand legally? Am i now stuck with this company and there inflated price or can anything else be done?
i've also had a quote from another roofer who has been recommended to me and he will do the new roof for 3100.
So not sure what to do now.... any idea's?

how about the admission the job wasn't up to scratch?0

They sent me a new quote and it says this in it......
We can only apologise for the works we completed earlier which we believed would rectify the problem. To show good will we are happy to give a full refund of these works (£1,700.00) towards the new works which we feel will ensure the property is watertight for many years to come and the work will carry our full guarantee.Adam

Go for a refund and go somewhere else... I bet the bloke wasn't sacked at all.0

The roof should not leak, even if the membrane is faulty. The slates or tiles keep the weather out , the membrane justs adds a bit of seal against cross winds etc: Don't go back to them execpt for a refund, get the blame in writing and get trading standards involved.0

Try a letter saying that the roof still leaks as badly if not worse than before and having sought advice from other roofing professionals you now believe the standard of works is so far below an acceptable standard that you no longer have faith in them as a roofing company and accordingly would like a full refund of all money paid.0

I think i will try the full refund option, if not i may have to mention trading standards...see how that goes down.Adam
