lellie is correct, if you check out the TV licensing website it clearly states you have to pay for a TV license if you can watch or record a TV signal, so if you have no TV you do not have to have a license, however technically if you have a TV and only use it as a monitor for your games consoles you still need a license unless you have no aerials and can prove that even with an aerial you would not be able to pick up the channels (since there is nothing stopping you getting a portable aerial otherwise).

As for £600 on a TV, I can't believe you can afford that much. Anyway my sister (not a student) just got a £550 32inch HD LCD TV from eBuyer.com. Myself I am sticking with my 21" standard TV unless my brother lets me have his 28" widescreen (he is also thinking of going hidef), no need to waste money. You should be able to get a 28" widescreen for about £60 second hand or just over £100 new from Tesco or if widescreen isn't important then a 21" standard will probably only be about £30 (I live in East Anglia, just check the local AdTrader for this sort of thing, people are always getting rid of their old TVs cheap or sometimes free if they are moving, even if they aren't, old TVs just take up too much room and people want to shift them quickly).
  • phantom thanks for that. I was looking online.. and basically the discounts would be around 10% for using retail online, but for something so heavy I would assume buying from retail is better due to faults/returns/warranty etc etc..

Also i'd like to see the tv i'm buying beforehand. Chances are cheaper tv's online aren't sold in retail shops thus hard to see quality.

What type of vouchers are available for things like that? I'm not really clued up about online vouchers :) Thanks again, sorry to be a pain!
If you go into a shop and look for the tv you want, note down the model number and look on line and you will probably get it cheaper. We got our TV for £699 instead of the £1000+ it was in some of the najor shops. It is a pain if it breaks though but they should send a person to collect it for you to your house if you have a problem with it.
Wildly my mind beats against you, yet the soul obeys. :heartpuls

Whoever at PC World gave you that information is talking rubbish. It used to be that a student could get a PC World discount card at the time of buying a PC or laptop, giving 10% off all future purchases.
This changed over a year ago so that anyone with a UCAS card can get 10% student discount. Simply go the the UCAS site and apply for a card - gives you discount in lots of other places.
