Student Discount - Large Retailers

Hihi everyone.
I know as a student with ye old student card I can get quite a bit of discount from many popular shops.
I tried using it in PC World and was told I need a special PC World Student card, but they wouldn't tell me how to get one!
So first of all, has anyone got one of those?
Secondly I'm going to need to buy things like TV's/Home Equipment, various other things when I move into the new house. Does anyone know any places like Comet that does student discount? I'm not optimistic as 10% off a £600 telly works out to be quite a lot, but hey may as well try right?
Thanks very much for your help.

you can get a 10% discount at maplins - it won't cover your big purchases but might help a bit......
don't know about PC world, but they can be contacted on customer.services@pcworld.co.uk so an email may be worth a go!:happyhear0 -
Thanks

My "Thanks" button doesnt work at work due to the it technician disabling nearly every type of web script imaginable.. so apologies for that. Will do it at home later.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Crikey - what kind of student are you?! £600 for a telly!
In my day (2000-2003) we could barely afford a 14"!0 -
It might be cheaper without the discount shopping around on-line or using on-line discounts and vouchers.MercilessKiller wrote:Hihi everyone.

phantom thanks for that. I was looking online.. and basically the discounts would be around 10% for using retail online, but for something so heavy I would assume buying from retail is better due to faults/returns/warranty etc etc..
Also i'd like to see the tv i'm buying beforehand. Chances are cheaper tv's online aren't sold in retail shops thus hard to see quality.
What type of vouchers are available for things like that? I'm not really clued up about online vouchers
Thanks again, sorry to be a pain! [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

I'm with Crikey. I don't have a telly. Can't afford the license and it's all rubbish and repeats anyway.
Have you considered buying second hand? You'd have to pick up or get someone else to pick up for you but you can get appliances much cheaper. Stuff like that suffers infant mortality anyway so a second hand one is probably less likely to break down than a new one. I'd particularly recommend it if you're not going to be living at your new address more than a couple of years.0 -

Thank you. I'll look into 2nd hand tellys
Just to inform you the TV License must be bought whether you own a TV or not.. thus not having a telly does not permit you to not pay a TV License I'm afraid!!! If you don't pay the license you're breaking the law, tv or no tv....
And i wont be at my new address for more than 9 months haha but may transport it somewhere else![FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

That is wrong. If you do not have a telly and can prove you cannot recieve TV programs you do not have to pay.0 -

freecycle.org has gotta be students best friend!
Seriously, you can totally furnish a house with freebies if you really don't care about everything matching. Bigger items you might need a van or something like if you need a sofa but you can always pay a company for that.
I've seen TVs going on that site for free aswell.I'm better off without you.0
