HI , my wife needs help , she took out a mobile insurance for her sony mobile phone (o2) with a company called ' insure my mobile.com'. she pays £10 per month so that 2 phones are covered for standard damage,loss etc with a £30 excess.

last tuesday 2/3/2010 we attended a wake in a hall and at around 10 pm my wife used her phone to make a call , then when she checked her bag at 11pm again her phone had gone missing.After searching where we were sitting we asked the bar staff and were told that no phone was handed in.As it was late we decided to leave it till in the morning and call around to see if anyone had picked it up in the morning.

after the school run etc the following morning we called around but no mobile was found so at around 1pm in the afternoon we went back to the hall to see if it had been handed in.No luck.

We went to the local police station and reported it lost then called o2 to tell them and give them the police number. We then called the insurance company to make a claim.

Firstly we were told they didnt need the police number ,
then they asked my wife to get 02 TO SEND THEM A FAX OF PROOF OF PURCHASE ,eventually 6 days later my wife recieved a 'conference' call from the insurance company to go over the details again.as we have never claimed before we thought this is what we did although the claim of having a new phone in 2 days was some sort of joke.

Finally today my wife received a call from the insurance company to say she would NOT be getting a new phone as shes not covered as she didnt report the loss within 12 hours and that she didnt look after the phone as it went missing.......

any ideas after you laugh at the incompitence of the insurance company?

    Taken from their T&Cs on their site

    1. You must:

    report the theft or loss of any mobile phone or PDA, within 12 hours of discovery to your Airtime Provider and blacklist your handset;

    Your fault, you didn't read the paperwork when you took out the policy.
