Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. I posted this in the other forum because nobody was replying to it in this one! Can you move it back please?0

How stupid moving this thread, can we have more common sense please? It was relevant to the DIY forum as it involved DIY.For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0

We paid £750 last October for exactly the same thing. I did the fire opening and bought the stove. Local chap came and fitted flue, pot, plate and backfilled with vermiculite.
We had 6 - yes 6 quotes! most expsensive was £1300 I think.
Our has been a god send and has cut our fuel bill massively. I get scrap wood or fallen trees through the year, cut up and store. Have a look round your local industrial estate. I get some 3 x 3 thick wood by pulling apart and cutting some pallets that are used to move sheet metal. About 3 hours work will keep our burner going for about 3-4 weeks 5-6 hours a day.
Most businesses are happy for you to take the wood as they have to pay for it to be removed.0 -
My I ask how long the job took? I can only imagine its a days work and at £750 that seems a very expensive labour charge or does this include the pipes and fittings?0

Hi Pipsta
I don't know where you are in the country but I paid £750 to have the chimney lined, a new plate across the chimney and a cowl fitted. I used Fahrenheit Stoves: http://www.fahrenheits.co.uk/ and they couldn't have been more helpful and efficient.
I've just had them back today to fit a new Morso Owl and I'm delighted with it.
Good luck with getting your installation sorted.
:-)

I have been quoted £1244 to fit a liner, back fill with vermiculite and install a new wood burner. No hearth, no removal of existing stove. The quote includes the 7m liner (marked at £65 per metre) and some pipe work for the stove, air vent and carbon monoxide alarm. Does this sound OK?
I thought it would be about 700 quid LOLcomping since august 2007, wins so far.....none! :rotfl:0 -
Got mine installed now for £350 and certified.

I asked the installer if I could supply (I was going to get the 904/904 grade liner with 20 yr guarrantee) - this would have saved 360 quid - but he said no - the liner wouldnt be as good as the one he would supply and he wouldnt use it.
Thinking now about getting the chimney lined with pumped system (pumice stuff?) - quoted 1800+vat for 2 x chimneys(both 7M) - this method is supposed to be better, anyone had it donecomping since august 2007, wins so far.....none! :rotfl:0 -
hes talkin rubbish. 904/904 is the highest grade. 316 is the lower quality one. I was fobbed off by one stove shop for supplying my own equipment. They were honest and said any monkey can do it, but for me to supply my own gear there isnt enough of a profit margin for them to do it. Go to a HETAS registered chimney sweep for a cheaper quote0
