£1400!!!!! taking the P1$$?

Just been quoted £1400 to install a woodburner!
I already have a stove so thats not included in the price, Ive added up the cost of the bits listed on their quote which only comes to £300 in parts.
They also quoted for 7m of liner when my existing liner is only 5m so why charge me for an extra 2m at £55 per M.
Where do they get £1100 fitting cost from?
Are they trying it on?

Get another quote or two and find out....?0

Yup get 3 quotes if you can then you can compare them.0

Sounds quite normal to me. It cost about £1100 for mine to be installed, that was just the cost of labour and a couple of bits - not the stove or liner. The labour cost part of the quote was £800 before VAT.
- remove existing cast iron fireplace
- open up and widen fireplace, supply and fit concrete lintel
- render & make good opening
- install new liner
- supply and fit chimney pot and cowl
- supply and fit steel register plate
- remove old hearth, fit new granite one (not supplied)
- fit stove
- remove all rubble etc, clean up afterwards
It was 2 long days work for 2 people.
Edit to add: the total cost of the woodburner itself, liner etc, installation and the hearth was about £2500. Looks nice though and is currently keeping the house nice and warm as I write! For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0 -
If they are fitting it in a day, it's well over.
Might worth asking how long it will take and if say there are two of them, assess it against a day rate of £120 to £140 per man. Anything more and you are being taken.
There might be some wastage in the liner, so it could be normal to allow for extra.0 -

Mine quote is for running the liner down the chimney and connecting to the stove. The fire surround hearth etc is all there ready to go, its just running the liner and connecting it to the stove.0 -
In which case I'd say it was very expensive. We paid around £2500 for ours which included supplying the stove and all associated parts, lining the chimney, opening up the fireplace which had been bricked up and creating the new one. Also included solid slate hearth.0

Hmm then that is rather a lot. So that's installing a liner, and presumably fit a register plate? Did they give a breakdown of the actual work?
The guy I used was recommended by stovesonline who I bought the stove from. He was excellent, did a very good job.For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0 -

Yeah thats for liner and fitting register plate and a steel chimney cowel. The was no break down cost just states 1x Install fee.
Im very wary as they quoted for 7m of liner and didnt even measure it. I know the liner only needs to be 4m (5m tops) as the old liner i removed was only 4m long.
I think they are trying it on.0 -

I can put a new cowel on myself, I could do the whole myself to be honest but dont want the council involved as they are slow as sh1te.
Do you think if I install the liner myself I can get someone to come over and connect up the rest and certify it or do you think they will only do the whole lot?0
