Hold off or wait for the dark blues

    You decide!
Build the browns if you get a chance early in the game.
  • It's killing me reading this thread.
I want to rename it "The pain of watching people _play_ Monopoly"....

If you really want to enjoy playing board games you need to look further than the "traditional" and mass marketed games such as Monopoly.

There are a class of games which are generally known as "Eurogames".
Here's a link to a blog that explains it all much better than I ever could

    http://spielknights.com/2008/12/games/an-introduction-to-eurogames/

The overriding factor of Eurogames is that they are fun, they play in a reasonable time (some as little as 15 minutes) and appeal to a wide range of ages, meaning that they are ideal for families.

Come on people! Open up your horizons...

  • I have to say the logic for getting a certain set of properties seems to be flawed. What properties you land on is random, and therefore the chance of you getting a particular set is equal for all players.

Let us say you want the orange set, that means you must be prepared to go out of your way to trade for orange properties and probably pay over the odds. The best policy is to just buy properties when you land on them.

The light blues are better value for money. The dark blues and the greens are definitely not the best since people continually avoid them with advancing to go and going to jail. Of course people avoid the light blues and browns also because of advance to jail. Overall I think the light blues are better.

Sometime when we play we add a rule (Can be found in the PC version of the game.) where all fines and taxes go into a money pot the centre of the board and if someone lands on free parking they can pick this pot of money up, this can turn a game around and give it a twist.

This was always the way we played it. Much more fun imo.

My tactics are kind of different, maybe becuase of the people I play with.
I tend to try to get the Pink ones, the dark blue one and the green ones and then buy any other random colour ones I know my friends are collecting. This allows me to be able to make deals with them later, gaining more than the properties worth if they choose to buy it or if they don't want to buy it stops them building houses. I can also morgage those properties first if I run into any problems.
