Orange - Dolphin 30

OK, this is from a mobile luddite, excuse the 'dull' questions but need some advice over my Orange account.
Right, so I am on a pay monthly account, I work abroad for 9 > 10mths per yr so basically the phone is there for whenever I come back to UK (twice a year) or have a rare trip back in to Europe.
I'm not a fan of direct debit so someone in UK pays the statement every month, which was running at about £11 > £15 per month when I was out - basically just paying for the line rental....zero minutes & zero texts.
Then in a fit of madness upgraded to a N95 in August 08 and took the Dolphin 30 plan which makes it £45 +/- per month before I even make a call.
I have just looked and it seems to me that I am already in the 19th month & still paying the top rate.
This seems like a helluva lot of cash going out every month for nothing - what would be the best move....I don't want to lose the number, can I change companies and still retain it?

call them. if you are past month 18 then u are due for upgrade and a reduction in tarrif. would keep the same number too. could try the 'im leaving unless i get a better deal' trick and get as much as u can0

like all mobile contracts once the 18 month is up is just rolls on and on with you continuing to pay £35 a month until YOU call them
your have 6 choices
1- ask to be transferred to PAYG - if you are here that infrequently probably the best option
2- ask for a new 18 month contract - if you don't get a new phone then it should be a lot cheaper
3 - go for a sim only deal with 30 days notice but a slightly cheaper cost
or
ask for a PAC and transfer your number to another provider - each of the above options still apply including PAYG but you may need to get your N96 unlockedTANSTAAFL !0 -
I just came off the trumpet to customer services and the bird said what you have just written....I mistakenly thought it would auto-default back to the old tariff after the 18 mths.....so anyway, I'm back to £13.50 (not gone d/d yet) as of 1st Apr. and get a new phone for the priveledge....too bad I won't be back to use it until July0
