I have an aygo which is due for tax on 1/4/10 should have gone down from £35 to £20 but the renewal still says £35. Phoned up DVLA but they said that they have received no training on the new rates so he couldnt advise me!!

Should have said 'well neither have I so until one of us has I won't be paying for something neither of us understand...' :p

  • Buy something with lower CO2 and you know your running costs are going to be less - siimple

So how much CO2 is used building a new car in the first place then compared to keeping my old one running ?????
Nothing to see here, move along.

The swine will want the £35 or they will likely fine you. They are probably using up the old paperwork to save waste and con us out of a few quid to help the old pension black hole whilst they are at it.

Never said it was right, its how it is though. If you find a way round it let me know or get yourself elected and change the tax law or just moan about it on here - your choice

Tax and environmental policies vary rarely work successfully and unfortunately end up ruining the basic underlying principle which often are sound (although not always!) Quite simply we need to be using less of the worlds natural resources - no idea if all this CO2 stuff is genuine or not but I do know you cannot plunder something forever and not expect it to run out

    And no I'm no greenie!

I may have missed something, but I thought that year 2000 cars were not affected by the changes.
They are still going up by WAY more than inflation (nearly 8%) for larger engined cars:

    2009/10 car tax rates

£190 per year if the engine's over 1,549cc

    2010/11 car tax rates

The November 2008 pre-budget report included the announcement that:
The annual rate for cars registered before March 2001 and with an engine size larger than 1,549cc will rise to £205 in 2010/11

My OH's car (Band D) is going down £30 and mine is going up £5.
I deliberately paid for only 6 months (£66) at end Jan for OH's car as I knew this would be the cheaper option - it works out at £105 a year - do your sums and save yourself some cash if you can if your tax is due this month. It seems to work to your advantage to just buy 6 months if your car is Band D - i.e. 121 - 130 gms CO2
If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try - oh bu99er that just cheat :D

Bit late unfortunately - if you are getting reminders this month your tax will be effective from 1/4/10 at new rates?
