Be known for some time. £180 to £190 is hardly massive.

My tax is going down, so I don't agree ;)
  • Got mine this morning, 190 quid for a 2000 Peugeot 306 utter rip off when they only spend about tuppence out of that on the roads. I have been looking to get a newer car but I just don't understand the car tax rules any more and don't know what to get and what to avoid.
Nothing to see here, move along.

I may have missed something, but I thought that year 2000 cars were not affected by the changes.

I take it this is these rates- http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/HowToTaxYourVehicle/DG_172916

If so on my next tax disc I save £30. :)

I have been watching people buy huge 4x4's because they have been going 'cheap'....

OH wanted to buy one too! I told him that this is what was planned. Now I can say 'I told you so!' :D

It's gone up a fiver, if it was due 1 day later it would be £205 or 11%. It's like being punished for having the cheek to own an older car. However you look at it it's a rip off, the road outside my house has more potholes than road surface.

Not exactly news though is it? These rates are published well in advance and really aren't that hard to follow.

We changed my wifes smalishl 4x4 last year and bought a hatchback which is now about £30 a year cheaper on the Road Tax and that gap will probably only widen (obviously the £30 wan't the reaon we changed it I hasten to add!)

Buy something with lower CO2 and you know your running costs are going to be less - siimple
