Just wait until you see what the new Murdoch/Cameron coalition governments got lined up for you then.

By the end of their term it'll be two minutes of prgramming between each advert break, and the Beeb will consist of 5 channels (TV and radio) of mostly celebrity news, a couple of heavily product placed 'buy buy buy' programmes and news about these programmes.
  • I am glad I got V+ for exactly this reason. All I do Is start watching an hour long program about 15mins late and then forward through the ads.
I end up finishing about the same time as the 'live' program.

Alternatively If there was only one long 15-20 min ad halfway through a program than at least I could go and do something else rather than being inturrupted every 15 mins for 5 mins!

I fear you are right. It was 2 years ago that Mrs Shadow and I decided that TV had nothing left to say, so we threw it out. So far, we have not noticed the loss, although you do have to put up with me on MSE as a consequence. [If you don't like that, you could always watch TV I suppose]

I bought a PVR, mainly so that I no longer have to watch adverts.

Although there are no commercial adverts on BBC, I object to those rubbish adverts for forthcoming programs and those rather pointless ointerludes where they advertise the channel you are watching.

The BBC have to have those "fillers" because all programmes (including their own for resale to other channels afterwards) are made to run less than the advertised length to accommodate commercial breaks.

When I want to record a program, I do it on my computer via a TV card and then edit it with software that automatically removes the commercial breaks - it doesn't catch all of them, and sometimes removes a bit of the programme but, in the main, it's remarkably good.
I then either watch it on my monitor or transfer to a DVD and watch it on the big screen.

And have you noticed that BBC now make their programmes in sections so that an ad-break can be introduced when it gets repeated on a commercial channel months later.
Good example is Antiques Roadshow - after about 20 mins, the AR animated symbol comes up and we get transferred to a separate piece by Fiona Bruce talking to one of the presenters for 3 or four minutes - then it's back to the program. Presumably Fiona's piece would be edited out and ads put in for the reruns.
Same thing with Bargain Hunt - when Tim Whatsisname goes off to show you a stately home halfway through the program, this can be edited out and ads take its place.

More difficult to spot in drama productions, but still there I think.

Oh christ, yes. I pointed this out to my mother in law last week when we were watching that Animal 999 or whatever it's called that's on during weekday mornings. It's usually quite obvious but in this program there was a blatant ad-bumper.

They had just saved a dog and then went to "Coming up on Animal 999!" And then straight after, there was the segment they just advertised.

'tis esp annoying when, to fit in the ads, they cut out the best jokes from shows :(
