    Hi All

Having updated my spreadsheets the other day, I discovered that moneywise things are going to be a teeny bit tight this month, mainly because the payment for my membership fee for C&CC will be going out sometime this month.

With that in mind I have decided to temporarily reduce my daily payments to my Egg card, but I have also renamed 2 of my currenly unused online savings accounts (both LTSB) to use one of them for saving towards next year's C&CC membership fee (a weekly payment to that one will suffice) and one to build up a bit of a house maintenance fund. The bit about the savings accounts I have been meaning to do for aaaaages!

So anyway, today's PADs are £1.14 to Evil Egg, £1 to C&CC savings, 50p to house maintenance savings, making a total today of £2.64

Still having internet trouble and no expenses in, despite promised today so I am looking rather skint in the run in to payday next Friday. Only £2.07 yesterday and £2.59 today = £4.66 please

    Hi Guys,

A bit of a long story but I'm wondering if I might get a bank charge....

Yesterday, I moved money here there and everywhere to try and empty my current account so I wouldn't spend any money that I didn't need to spend (F_F have started a new challenge and I don't wanna fluff up straight-away!!)

I was waiting for a couple of payments to come out and, going by my available balance, I had enough to cover them.

I had to use my debit card this morning and spent £5.50 (yes, the amount is important!!)

Anyway, I logged onto online banking a little while ago to my balance being zero which was fine but I had to transfer money back to my current account as I have to go to Tesco for yet more groceries *insert rolley eyes smiley*

I transferred £10.00 from savings to current account but my available balance was £9.50 so my question is this...If I only had £5.00 available, why would the bank have let a debit card payment of £5.50 go through and if I wasn't showing as being overdrawn, am I likely to get a charge?!

I suspect that it depends on who you bank with and what kind of account it is.

Many "full" i.e. Visa Debit accounts have a small overdraft buffer which you can dip into without charge. For example, you have no overdraft limit but can go up to £5 overdrawn without charge. Banks generally don't advertise this!

You also find that if you have Visa Debit the shops don't check every transaction to see if you have funds in your account as they only check above a shop floor limit.

If you made the payment today (and what were you spending £5.50 on young lady?!) and transferred money to cover it today, before the funds were debited from your account then you shouldn't be charged for the transaction.

    Hope that helps!

I think as long as you pay in the money the same day you should be ok angelic - that seems to be what happens with my bank.

A whole 8p for me today please, to the coke bottle.
