He's not worth it. You can go through your life bitterly resenting him and getting tied up in knots emotionally. Do you know how much negative effect your feelings will have on him?
I'll tell you.
Nothing - zilch - nada.
So I guess you might as well be happy.
Thanks Paul and yes I know your right!! And yes I know the only thing that he thinks about is himself! I manage most of the time by ignoring him but when I have money worries then yes it does get to me!:o It just sometimes seems that he has a great life and I am bogged down, if you know what I mean? My dad has the same opinion as you - ignore the idiot and get on with your life - he'll regret it one day, you won't!
It's probably more difficult though when there are children involved.
I imagine you already try to budget without maintenance money so when it actually does come in it's a bonus? yes I do but saying that I frequently go over budget and am still rather crap with moneyadmittedly not as bad as I used to be but I still splurge when I feel down!
I've never had children of my own so at 53, I can't see it happening now as I would be 70+ by the time they were off my hands. The hardest thing I had to deal with was around my sister's son. She's not too far from you as she emigrated to Shildon a few years back. Anyway, when my nephew was younger, his estranged father used to turn up once in a while and regularly didn't turn up at all when he was meant to. He sometimes disappeared for a year or two. So I ended up being a sort of surrogate father. Each time the to55er returned, I would take a step back to try and allow some bonding to happen without interference. Each time, he got hurt again when he disappeared. I saw his father in a shop once when some heavy stuff was going on. The !!!!!! didn't realise I had seen him and he ducked underneath some shelving to hide from me. I let him know I was there though. I was very kind to him because I still wanted to give it every chance at the time.
He sounds like another right charmer!!! why oh why can't they see that all the kids want is a bit of their dad's time and to feel loved and wanted??? not much to ask from the man who did help bring them into this world!
It's a very strange experience wanting to grab someone around the neck and punching them till they bleed but instead having a polite respectful conversation with them asking if they can "please" visit their son soon. :rotfl::rotfl:oh yes I know that feeling very well!!
That bit about not knowing what present to get you is awful. I have always made an effort myself. Sometimes I have got it laughably wrong but that's not the point. The point is in the effort IMO.
To be honest, it did bother me when I first met him but at least he's honest and says he'd rather me get myself something I liked/wanted than something I didn't. But he does make an effort at Christmas and gets me my fave perfume(even if he has bought me some clothes that my granny wouldn't even wear in the past  - it is the thought that counts
) and even the other day he popped to the shop for some milk and came back with a bunch of flowers for me
first time in 4 years he's done that but I nearly fainted and yes it did make me feel good! He's generally a good bloke and most importantly he treats his daughter and even his ex very well, which is a big thing in my eyes! Like my mother said you can tell a lot from a bloke by the way he treats his mother/family.
