Hi all, another £1 to Barclaycard today.
Sorry to hear about your ex, Green - a money tree?! Does he think you have one?! My "dad" was useless and never gave my mum any money for us. Mind you, he never bothered seeing us either, as I said - useless. Don't understand some men and the throw-away attitude they have with their kids.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Oh he couldn't give a toss if I've got money or not!!! We split up in 1996 and I didn't get a penny for years, he's self employed and made it look like he was living on fresh air, he's not only spent the last 14 years dodging the csa but also the tax man! I hope they catch up with him one of these days cos his lifestyle far exceeds his supposed poor income!! He eventally started paying £5 a week, yes a week!!! in 2000, that was for 3 kids as DS1 had left school. Then in 2004 it went up to £130 a month - he said he couldnt' afford that :rotfl:so paid £100 a month!! pathetic! CSA are worse than useless in my opinion!!
But on the bright side, the kids have absolutely no respect for him, they all know he lies through his teeth and they know they can't ever rely on him to do anything for them. i think it's really sad that the kids think like that about their dad, I would be so upset if I thought they felt that way about me!!Debt @ LBM - £25,722 Debt now - £11,811 DFD - April 2012

Not a hope in hell. It's so not worth getting stressed about one day, as far as I'm concerned. Most of the wedding is planned, now we're just sitting and waiting for the date to come around. I'm even calmly planning my hen do with my sister.Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0 -

Angelic - I use Quidco all the time and I've saved £337 on car/house insurance and other stuff since I've been with them.
Sorry Paul but men really are that badmy OH doesn't even bother looking for a present for me, he just tells me to buy something and he'll give me the money! And he never remembers anyones birthday - apart from his own!!!
I had an argument with my ex about his lack of paying child maintenance from last month, he reckoned that he didn't have the money, he was skint, bearing in mind this is the guy that went on a 4 week holiday to Oz, Dubai, Singapore and New Zealand and just this weekend went away for 3 days! But he's skint apparently. He only pays £50 for DS4 now anyway, not a great deal, he told me I'd have to wait until he had the money, did I think he had a money tree in his garden - I won't tell you what I said to thatbut basically lost my temper and told him to stick his money where the sun don't shine and put the phone down on him, I really can't be ar5ed with the hassle anymore, even tho it means he gets off scott free again!!! It wouldn't be so bad if he even gave ds pocket money or bought him new clothes now and again but he doesn't. Just to add that he manages to go away about 3 times a year and at least once a month goes away for the weekend! Do I sound bitter???
In a word - yes.
He's not worth it. You can go through your life bitterly resenting him and getting tied up in knots emotionally. Do you know how much negative effect your feelings will have on him?
I'll tell you.
Nothing - zilch - nada.
So I guess you might as well be happy.
It's probably more difficult though when there are children involved.
I imagine you already try to budget without maintenance money so when it actually does come in it's a bonus?
I've never had children of my own so at 53, I can't see it happening now as I would be 70+ by the time they were off my hands. The hardest thing I had to deal with was around my sister's son. She's not too far from you as she emigrated to Shildon a few years back. Anyway, when my nephew was younger, his estranged father used to turn up once in a while and regularly didn't turn up at all when he was meant to. He sometimes disappeared for a year or two. So I ended up being a sort of surrogate father. Each time the to55er returned, I would take a step back to try and allow some bonding to happen without interference. Each time, he got hurt again when he disappeared. I saw his father in a shop once when some heavy stuff was going on. The !!!!!! didn't realise I had seen him and he ducked underneath some shelving to hide from me. I let him know I was there though. I was very kind to him because I still wanted to give it every chance at the time. It's a very strange experience wanting to grab someone around the neck and punching them till they bleed but instead having a polite respectful conversation with them asking if they can "please" visit their son soon.
That bit about not knowing what present to get you is awful. I have always made an effort myself. Sometimes I have got it laughably wrong but that's not the point. The point is in the effort IMO.0
