suggest you do not use the 004474RIV code. mate of mine used it and saved about £30. Eurotunnel rang him 3 days before travelling and cancelled his booking. They wanted about £260 to re-book. He eventually did a deal with them but it could have been disasterous if he'd been out when they phoned. Beware.

Hi Everyone

Just returned from Folkestone today, having been denied entry at the barrier for our day trip to France (very humiliating).

We had taken advantage of the 'Friend of Staff' code and booked and paid for today's trip on 12/10/06 without any problem at all. We received no email or telephone call from Eurotunnel advising us of the cancellation. We were asked at the barrier who the member of staff was who was 'our friend'! We were then told that our booking had been cancelled and that if we wanted to travel there and then it would cost us £98.00. Needless to say we declined.

I have no problem with Eurotunnel deciding not to honour our reservation (after all we were jumping on the bandwagon rather). I do take issue however with the fact that they didn't advise us of the cancellation until we turned up on the day. After all, if they can confirm by email it shouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility to have cancelled by email? Reckon they thought we'd cough up the £98.00 and still go and they'd be the ones making a killing! So, we've had an expensive wasted day and Eurotunnel have made nothing at all.

Anyway, the moral of the story is, as usual, - BEWARE, it was too good to be true!
