i've seen ads ın US car magazınes for Devices that jam hand held speed detectors, i am aware that they are illegal in the UK, but i would be using it overseas, anybody got knowledge of these?

No i'm not a boy racer but they have just realised over here that they are a very good revenue producer and the officers use them at every opportunity and even 1 kph over will result in points and a fıne.

Thanks

Check the local laws relevant to the country in which it will be used in, as it can vary from country to country depending not only on the perverting the course of justice charge which they can attract, but also in relation to microwave power emitted by the device. You wouldn't want to zap some poor pedestrians pace maker would ya!

Don't take any of this stuff to France though. They get very funny about any of these devices and start seizing cars, guillotining owners, etc.

You also have to consider that most hand held speed detection devices are LASER operated and not radar. You can't jam them. Just slow down....... works every time, and it's FREE
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!

Now thats not strictly true is it N9eav?, at least not if you'd followed the link on Cumbrian Males post above.

It all depends on how low and dirty you want to play it, and how much money you want to spend on the problem.

A story I heard (whether true or not I don't know) was that the police in one area were getting fed up with jammers.

Normally if a camera registers a fault, then even if a car goes speeding past it doesn't take a photo as it wouldn't stand up as evidence. Jammers rely on this and cause the camera to think there is something wrong with it.

So they re-programmed the cameras, and as well as taking photos when a speeding car went past, they took photos if the camera registered a fault irrespective of whatever speed a car went past. If the same registration plate turned up more than a couple of times on a 'faulty' camera, then the police were dispatched to 'have a word' with the owner.

You are correct to a point. Cameras are programmed to throw up a fault log whenever they are jammed, usually this is enough to suspect that a jammer is being used, and if a police patrol is present (ie not a civilian operator) it usually involved the police patrol pulling up the driver, and if there was a jamming unit present it often resulted in severe penalties for the owner as it is an offence in the UK to use one of these. So use at your peril.

However the unit above seems unique in that it neither allows the speed to be established, nor triggers a fault code to be logged, so no evidence on the photo of either speeding nor of suspicion of jamming the device.
If the same registration plate turned up more than a couple of times on a 'faulty' camera

I would hope that anybody using this device would not be in the habit of deliberately speeding in any case, if so they deserve all the get.

Its a shame that the same level of diligence towards speeding, isn't excercised to those who

    (i) Drive too close
(ii) Have their kids in the car unbelted or sitting on Aunties knee
(iii) Haven't figured out how the indicators work yet
(iv) Pull out in front of you at junctions

Personally I'd like to see a few hundred a day being prosecuted for these offences - which cause accident and death just as much as speeding.

Works quite different over here, Police officer shows you the reading and you pay on the spot if not you face arrest,(God are they gonna have problems when Turkey joins the EU).

I looked into this years ago. For full protection you need a radar detector, a laser jammer and a GPS system. Laser detection is pointless. I don't run any such protection; I rely in observation, choosing the time and place etc.
