Changing Tariffs

hi guys,
just a quick question, in case any of you have any experience of this,
i have a contract with virgin mobile currently for £20pm, however the phone is now giving me grief, i believe it's a technical fault and i've only had it two and a half months so it's well under warranty, however, i really dislike the phone - would they be likely to allow me to swap my current phone (nokia 5800) for a different phone (blackberry 8520) if it's on a higher tariff (£25pm) as long as the contract restarts from now...
if anyone has any hints tips or opinions about this i'd be really appreciative,
