Ask for the IMEI number and check it on this site, it may be stolen/blocked:

Unfortunately it doesn't stop an unscrupulous seller reporting it lost/stolen after you have bought it.

Great...if you live in Australia. Don't think it applies to phones lost or stolen in the UK does it ?

Only problem is, you shouldn't give your IMEI to anyone as it can be cloned. If somebody asked me I wouldn't give it out.

Same here, i've seen cloned phones and spoken to customers who had it happen, also seen their mahoosive bills too. Not nice.

Tip : Before buying off eBay, look everywhere else first, last resort check the seller has a good history of feedback then buy if needs be.

they would have to clone the sim card to run up a bill -not the phone imei?
in theory you could have 100s of phones all with the same imei and they would all work as normal untill the imei was blocked

Yes, the sim was cloned for their bill to be run up.

  • but only the old style analogue phone sim cards can be cloned, not the new (past 8 years +) digital ones. That's why chip and pin was introduced - becuase the chips can't be cloned.
