I cant believe the customer service that Ford give,

I bought a brand New Ka (via one of the online brokers) and the sale side was very good and smooth (apart from an insultingly low part ex), we were due to have the Ka delivered on a trailer on MOnday, at 1030am we were called by the dealer saying the delivery man was sick and the car would be delivered the next day but this time driven to us (around 160miles), so took another morning off work to wait for the car, the delivery man went through a check list that he knew nothing about eg......the car does this but I dont know anything about that....... anyway he went away and we went out to look at our new car, as soon as we started the car the engine malfunction light came on and stayed on,,,, quick reference to the handbook said this was bad and needed to be looked at straight away. Called the dealer, obviously not happy (brand new car and all that) and was told that would be called back straight away as the sales person was with a customer, several hours later and many more calls which were nicly deflected by the call handler resulted in my wife demanding to speak to the manager by which time the sales person miraculosly became free and said there is nothing we can do about (yes i know we delivered a brand new car to you and I know its engine malfunction light is on and I know you cant drive this new car untill it has been fixed and I know that we have just driven away you perfectly good drivable car but what can we do about it? )..... take it to your local ford dealership to have it fixed...... a quick call to Sandicliffe Ford in Nottingham..... Im sorry sir, can fit it in untill Thursday:eek: ...... no Im sorry we dont have any courtesy cars:mad: .
Thursday 8am, took car to Ford Sandicliffe who said.... if we can get to it today you can pick it up at 5pm.... well will you let me know if you get to look at it:rolleyes: Of course sir...... called them at lunchtime, oh yes sir we have looked at and you have a faulty part, whats that then? I cant tell you at the moment sir:confused: . Well will it be fixed today? I hope so sir but we are waiting for a delivery of parts and hope that will be on the delivery.... call back later.
Called back at 4.30pm Oh no i am sorry sir the part hasnt arrived, maybe tomorrow, will it be tomorrow?? I dont know, lets hope so ay:confused: why not call back at 9.30 in the morning and we will know better then
Called back 9.45am next morning, has the part been delivered? I dont know sir why not call back later, Could you find out for me? well the van has arrived but the parts department have to sort the delivery out, then they let us know and you are calling very early,. Perhaps you could ask them if the part has arrived,,,,, oh you are lucky sir the parts dept has just overheard me talking to you and they say that the part hasnt arrived. Would you be so kind as to ask them if the part will arrive today as I need a car for work.... They have no idea sir, perhaps you could call back later, well will you be able to get me a courtesy car untill the repair has been completed... after all this is a brand new car that is sitting in your service area.... well I dont know about that, you see its not really our problem we have sold you the car and we dont really care much about what happens after that(OK they didnt say the last bit but thats my experiance of Ford)
anyway car finally fixed 4pm Friday...... anyone looking to take a brand new Ford Ka as part ex for something a little more reliable?????

    Are you serious?

You bought a car off the internet.
Someone drove it 160 miles to your house.
    You signed the paperwork.
    The delivery driver left.

and ONLY THEN you went out to look at your purchase?

When I bought my brand new Mondeo, it was in the showroom at another dealer (with 1.6 miles on the clock). I wouldn't even let them drive it 5.5 miles across town and insisted it went by transporter. I then inspected it again at the selling dealer before signing the paperwork.

Could I ask...how much have you 'saved' here?

This is quite similar to people moaning about charges on cards, interest etc, when it's them not looking at the Ts and Cs.

Yes, customer service from Ford sounds shoddy, but it was totally avoidable if you checked the purchase immediately on receipt.

160 miles on the clock before you touch it....are you mad?

Just like YorkshireBoy, I'd make them jump through hoops to get it to me with the mileage untouched.

To be fair, I had insecpedt the car from the exterior, had checked the interior and had seen the car drive up and heard the engine so all appeared fine, i must admit thought that I did not get behind the wheel and start the engine or take it for a drive before signing the paperwork, I guess you live and learn, as for the savings... that was over £2500 from the mrp

    Might be not relevant but..

ive just bought a new ford fiesta!! the sales man was very good at showing me around the cars and letting me test drive them, BUT.. then when it came to talking about part exchange and prices, he would do me any deal!! he said that he was giving me the best price and couldnt go no lower (YEAH Right!!), i ended up buying the car, but didnt feel that i had a good deal! i even had to pay for the tax disc!

The salesman is not there to be your mate. He is there to get the most amount of money out of you. In your case he succeeded when you bought the car.

Sorry Jim, I wasn't very clear. I was interested in how much you'd saved over the BEST dealer price you'd negotiated before you went online.

As you will probably know, significant dealer discounts can be had at this time of year (late June I assume from your post)...
    • 1/2 year-end figures to attain
    • End of the month targets
    • Mid plate change
    • People paying the balances on their summer holidays
    • People drawing out their holiday spending money
    • etc.
These are all factors that helped me negotiate a £4K main dealer discount (along with 3 years 0%, free alloy wheels, full tank of fuel, 12 months tax, mats, flaps, and a free first service) for my Mondeo when I bought it 3 years ago last month.

The DC Cook link shows a 'pre-reg' 06/06 vehicle, meaning you'd be 2nd keeper and residuals would be affected down the line - I was first keeper on mine!

Also, there's no mention of the other benefits/features I negotiated. Granted, I bought 3 years ago, but I paid £11,501 (£4K down and the rest on 0% over 3 years).

EDIT: Just seen you've edited your post whilst I was making mine!
