Fit to scale on screen!

Options
Hi

I think this should be any easy one to resolve, but not for me!

Have just bought a new pc with 17" monitor. The problem is, when I view web sites, especially this one, a lot of the info is off the side of the page, so I have to use the scroll bar to move left and right. Frankly, I am getting bored of this.
Can someone tell me how to 'fit to page' as it were?

Rgds

What is your current resolution? (go to the desktop, right click, choose properties, then settings).

Also what browser are you using (presumably Internet explorer?, if so what version)

    Hey Garcia!!

My screen resolution is at 800 by 600 pixels with colour quality at Highest (32bit). My screen refresh rate is at 75 hertz, and my DPI setting is at Normal (96dpi).
I am using IE, i think it is version 6 (??). I downloaded V7 beta on my old pc, but A) my missus didn't like it, and B) my pc died soon after (probably not related, but once bitten and all that).

    Regards

    Ok couple of things:
    1. This thread here is "wide" even on my 1280x1024 screen:
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=232051

So some threads on this site will always be too wide (its down to the site not your pc). Most of the threads on this site fit fine within my (1280x1024) screen though.

    2. 800x600 is a very low resolution. If you have a CRT monitor then I would change it to 1024x768. That should be comfortable enough on a 17" monitor. If your monitor is LCD/TFT then most likely the "native" resolution is 1280x1024 and I would change to that.

Let me know if that does/doesn't help.

    Hi Garcia

I have gone thru all the variations in the settings mode. The next one up from 800x600 is 1024x768, and although it all fits within the screen nicely, it is blurred. Is there something I have not done?

Is your monitor TFT/LCD or is it a old-style CRT?

As Garcia said in Post #4, try setting it to 1280x1024 (native resolution)

    Hi espresso

Yeh tried that! Unfortunatley, the icons / text (everything on the page) is so small, I had to get the bedroom magnifying glass out!! Even tried increasing text size (view, text size, largest).

Most 17" TFT's have a native resolution of 1280x1024 which is what they should be set to. What is the make and model number of this monitor?

Thats weird - somethings not right.

On a 17" tft, 1280x1024 should be the native resolution and should produce a crisp image where nothing is too small. Anything other than the native resolution on a tft should be blurry.

Whats the make/model of your monitor?

    EDIT: @Espresso: SNAP!
