CSA 1 - Am i Paying too much??

Im on CSA 1 i think and im paying a Unbelieveable £132 a week for one child, is this right??

I earn £459 a week, and pay £700 morgage- and they give me £50 to live on - cheers CSA.

Thing is i manage too pay the above amount, although i thought it would drop now he is 11 but it hasnt and...

Id like too move into a slightly bigger house with my parter and have a child but fear i wont be able too afford it once they take her money into account and the morgage will be around £900

I wish i was on CSA 2 it would be only £69

Kelloggs is the one you need for this!

Did you think he would cost less by the time he got to 11?

If she has a child, I think they will take that into account.

The rate she can claim changes when he is 11, so how come i dont see this discount??

They Know i pay £700 morgage but i cant change to a £900 morgage if they wont change anything.

Oh and she is married, he is working and she has 2 other children/

Sorry can't help much, but we are in a similar position, on CSA 2 we would be paying less then half what we do pay. Our PWC is married also but has NIL income as far as CSA are concerned as she gets WTC which is deemed to be a benefit therefore she is on benefits - despite both her and her husband working. I don't thing the assessment changes re carers allowance part unless you request the change and even then I don't expect it would change the assessment by a lot.

    Not as such

Kelloggs would be the best person to ask .

The carers element drops by 25% when the child turns 11 .This isn't automatic though you need to tell the CSA to recalculate

PM Kelloggs36 and ask her to check your CS1 calculation, think she is the only person who actually understands CS1, but she is a true gem, and helps many of us through the CS1 minefield

Yes it can be right - if you were assessed a long time ago, the child allowances were lower. If after your personal allowance and housing costs, you had the amount required for the maintenance required then this is what you would pay. Maintenance required was based on the child allowances and adult personal allowance less child benefit payable. For one child under 11 this was high, in the region of £100 plus. If you had more than the maintenance requirement left over after your allowances, then you would pay more, based at 15% (it is a bit more complicated than that, but it is roughly what happens). Then they work out your protected income which would be your personal allowance, council tax, interest only on your mortgage and give you £30 additional margin. They add that up and take it from your household income and then work out 15% of that which they add to the allowances. If this total after being taken from your net income leaves you with the amount they assessed based on your income, then you pay the full amount - if not, you pay what is left over. It looks like you had the full amount left over.

As for partner, they do NOT add her income to yours, the first part of the calculation is exactly the same, but if you got a bigger house, you would get the full housing costs which would reduce your assessment. It would be your protected income that would change, but if she works then you will have more money left over to pay the full maintenance so you are unlikely to get any discount.

Thanks for that, im still a bit confused and also worried, because last time they recalculated they took 7 months and i ended up in 2K of arrears, fingers crossed then.
