Confusing Parking Sign leads to fine

Hope someone can adise.
I received a parking ticket today in Reading (Saturday 1.30pm), but honestly thought I was OK parking where I did.
The sign read:
8am - 6pm Permit Holders Only
or 2 hours no return in 2 hours
I read this as Permit Holders can park between 8am and 6pm,
ANYONE ELSE, reagrdless of whether they have a Parking Permit or not, can park for 2 hours (but not return within 2 hours after leaving).
So my understanding was that as I was not a Permit Holder I could park for 2 hours at any time.
As I got a £70 ticket fine (I was only parked there for 1 hour 30 mins), presumably my understanding is incorrect?

I would imagine I would have thought the same. Copy/photo/scan your ticket and remove personal details. Host on tinypic and put the url on here less the http:// bit. There may also be parts of the pcn which are faulty. Pics of the sign and lines/bays would also help.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Thank you.
Unfortunately my scanner has stopped working....one of those days.....as least Spurs didn't lose as well!
If I get it fixed I will scan.....sorry though, not really sure about your instructions about tinypic...please advise further, thanks0 -

You might have a digital camera though? Use that set on best quality. See this thread for how to attach images hosted on tinypic:

HTH, it's always worth looking for appeal points before paying a PCN. The vast majority of PCNs discussed on specialist motorists' forums like pepipoo.com are successfully appealed (around 80 or 90% don't have to be paid in the end, after the full appeals process).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thanks, I'll take a trip back to Reading and take a photo of the sign.
The signpost was divided into 3:
Top part:
P 8am - 6pm Permit Holder Only
or 2 hours no
return in 2 hours
Bottom part:
All other time permit holders only
Right part:
Only A1
I've read it over and over and am sure the Top part implies that ANYONE can park for 2 hours between 8am and 6pm. It wouldn't make sense if the 'or 2 hours no return in 2 hours' applies to Permit Holders only....would it? Because that would be saying that Permit Holders can only park there for 2 hours between 6pm and 8am??0 -
In the mean time try and post up your ticket, both sides, remove personal details.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Certainly sounds confusing and I would have read that the same as you have read it, but photos will confirm.
As well as pics of the signs, also get pics of the bay lines including the termination lines of the bay at each end. If you are in the mood, also measure the bay width and length and write it down (it may be non-compliant).
As PTP says, use your camera now to take pics of the front & back of the PCN and host the images here, as shown in the link above. The PCN may well be flawed too, they often are.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

(with the times varied, obviously) then you're absolutely right and no contravention has occurred, providing you were parked wholly within the white marked bay and not on top of anything yellow.
Of course, I'll look forward to the pic of the actual sign and the contravention code on the PCN. For now, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.0 -
Silly me, sorry:

Thanks again for all the replies.
Yes veF327 that looks exactly like the sign. Thanks for your re-sssuarance too. Only thing is if the road did also have Permit holder only spaces, how will I prove which space I was in???? Will they have taken a photo?0
