Windows XP Service Pack 2 - RELEASED

  • I did read this one and it said not for use on one computer ---only use if downloading to a number of computers ::)

It may be best to wait for the CD or specific XP update from microsoft, could save any problems.

I'm a network admin. Any other specific version will be a cut down version of the 270meg one, and the problems will persist with those applications in sp2 regardless.

Anyone know - if I install Service Pack 2 and get probs -  will using System Restore undo 'em?

Yes - system restore will reverse the changes.

    Thanks gt94sss2

Can you just confirm for me....(dead nervous about this...can you tell!), if I install the new SP2 and afterwards experience problems with progs not working or working differently - by using System Restore it would roll me back to before I installed the SP2 therefore taking me back to a previously healthy state?

    Oooooh Microsoft...you are such a pain!!!!! >:(

    Thanks

PS. Must say its very nice for a newbie to be able to ask, (possibly dumb), questions like this on here...have tried other forums in the past, (such as the Windows Community Newgroups), and had some very sarky replies!

i done it last night through auto update, took about 20-30 min over broadband, got some great features especially the security center, tells you what your anti virus is doing, also has a much better firewall and built in popup blocker, it also seems to have fixed all the little quirks that i had before, so a big thumbs up from me!

I thought the announcement that they will be enforcing corporate updates is interesting.

I can't see what all the hype is about if you have a well managed machine and patching regime.

Needless to say, its best to do a full system backup before install. Some colleagues have noticed problems especially with SMS pushed of Norton AV updates. Everyone is expecting lengthy delays on shutdown once MS releases some more updates.

Don't know what all the fuss is about. Downloaded the full SP2 last week and have now installed it on 10 PC's with no problems on any. They work faster if anything, don't take longer to shut down and no probs with any installed software. New features great and a much more secure PC. Im sure there will be further "fixes", that's the nature of things as MS are such a target for the rogues!
