Anyone that has been sat waiting for this will be please to hear that SP2 for Windows XP Home and Pro has been released. At the time of writing, the compact download that examines your system so that it only install required parts is still not released on the Windows Update site.
However, the full SP release (which will work on one PC anyway) is available on Microsoft Page for Windows XP SP2 it's nearly 270mb though!

I would wait at least a month before anybody installs SP2!!
Wait for the big businesses to install it and find the bugs before installing it on your PC at home ::)0 -

Next they will be telling us Notepad doesnt work in SP2...0 -
Well I can't see me downloading all 270MB of it and can't use Windows Update as for "reasons" I don't want my computer talking to Microsoft.
I think I'll wait for the CD of it.Alex Jones0 -

I did read this one and it said not for use on one computer ---only use if downloading to a number of computers ::)
It may be best to wait for the CD or specific XP update from microsoft, could save any problems.

The instructions are to avoid wasting the bandwidth available. If you have hundreds of Pc's then you need only download it once and then distribute the service pack via a local network. If you have one PC then you are in the same situation but the download can only benefit one PC.
Wait for the CD if a 250Mb download and several hours of upgrading activity are a turn off.

Anyone know - if I install Service Pack 2 and get probs - will using System Restore undo 'em? Also - received a news alert from the BBC indicating that there are 2 Microsoft articles available detailing both the progs that stop working and the progs that behave differently after the install of SP2 but I can't find 'em. Anyone know where they are please?

@ Allexie
I'd hold off instaling the 270mb version SP2 as I have just read that Microsoft are opening the update servers for XP Home users on Wednesday 18th August. XP Professional Users should have the update by the end of the month.
As for System Restore I don't think that it is affected by SP2.
cheers
