 to being awake at 3am, nothing worse especially when you can't work out why.
OMG about the pony club, my DD would have a major hissy fit if she was told bright pink joddies were a no no, yard certificate sounds good, my DD is limping at the minute she had a lesson on monday and got thrown and now has mother of all bruises on her leg, i'm getting tp the point that i can't watch anymore:eek:.0 -
Had a spectacularly productive day yesterday. Finished emptying schools loft resulting in 4 bags of fabric for recycling, the unearthing of several hundred more fluorescent tubes and the filling of pretty much all of the wheelie bins which is the equivalent of several very large skips. Considering the loft space in question is only a metre wide and around 10m long this is a pretty impressive haul.
Went on to stick down a couple of loose bits and reseal a few sinks as well as mopping the hall floor in anticipation of polishing it at some point between now and Monday. Quite when I'm going to fit that in is anyone guess. Collected the furniture from the upholsterer and v. naughtily stayed for a cuppa and even remembered to clean after holiday club.
Came home, washed up and then assisted in a v. brief spot of bricklaying before grabbing a shower and clearing 2/3rds of the laundry pile. Need to finish the ironing at some point today but I did get through the worst of it yesterday.
OH threw a random wobbly last night directed at me disappearing off to school mid afternoon which considering he was asleep yesterday when the DDs and I departed is just a bit irritating. More irritating is him bunging the slow cooked casserole in the freezer and driving to the kebab shop meaning I had to cook something else for the DDs dinner when they got home. Selfish !!!!!!.
Plans for today involve digging a crater in the centre of the foundations for OHs log store. With a bit of creative origami I wouldn't have too much difficulty losing a body under there. Tis a bit close to the house on hot summer days to risk the stench of decompositon though but the thought is v. tempting indeedy. May well stick to the 6" of excavation that has been decreed by his lordship.
Rather farcically most of the arguments this week have been as a result of OH being stuck with the DDs "all week" which is quite amusing considering that in this case all week has actually meant two mornings, one full day with DD2 and a spot of chaufeuring. Hes still got it firmly fixed in his head that hes a failure as a man because his wife has a job and hes relegated to spending time with the DDs on his days off almost as if thats a punishment. Guess thats never going to change.
DD1 surprised me yesterady by asking if she could try the Kindle. She hates reading. Its incredibly hard for her, words don't make much sense and she really struggles with new words to the point where her guesses at them aren't even vaguely like the words on the page. Still she tracked down a book on Amazon, downloaded it and then sat giggling as she read it. It was all about karate kicking elvesSaving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -

WOW. That is a lot of tat to find in a relatively small space.

Nice one

Still don't get why people iron. Wouldn't most things still look as good if they just got folded straight off the line/tumble dryer and put away?

God I hope the children weren't around when he was saying that. Talk about not making them feel special:mad:

DD1 is borderline everything but doesn't actually have any specific learning difficulties which makes figuring out how to help her ten times harder. Think the Kindle was the novelty factor of it not being a book plus it reads out loud in a v. mootonous and nausiatingly irritating voice so she can double check that what shes read is whats actually rpinted on the page. Theres no ability to adjust the background colour - apparently dyslexics find it easier to read from blue pages or through a plasitc coloured filter although that just annoys DD1 - but it is considerably greyer than the paper of a book. Whether DD1 has noticed that making a difference is anyones guess although she claims she likes it because you can fiddle with the text size and spacing which stops words on different lines merging into one another. Another big advantage is she can adjust things so that there are fewer words to a page but considerably more pages which stops things wandering off to places they shouldn't be. However it works anything that encourages her to read is worth having around even if these very tweaks are the same things that irritate the hell out of me.
I only iron the things I can't get away with not ironing but thats still a heck of a lot of stuff when OH insists on wearing at least two shirts a day.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Hi MOO, 2 of my chaps are dyslexic. I took them to a specialist optician (the optician we took them to was dyslexic) who checks to see if they need overlays (the coloured things) and if they would help. In my Ds' caes they wouldn't but we did find out that he couldn't 'fix his focus' he was given some eye exercises to do which helped with his reading. HTH

That sounds very interesting re the eyesight tests for dyslexics. Never heard of that. I must admit that reading your last post I was wondering about eyesight tests. I had extra classes for reading in primary school as they said that I was struggling. I wasnt told that at the time I was told that I was so good they wanted to hear me reading out loud! Anyway a year later I failed the first eyetest I had in school which answered a lot of questions they had with why I was struggling in school. Even now I wear contact lenses and I like to set the computer text to a large setting as it makes it so much easier to read. I must add that I am an avid reader, always have been. Sounds like DD likes to read if she was laughing out loud so maybe that, ahem, misunderstood present will be a great help for her. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. interesting about the glasses issue. we found with DS that he had one long sighted eye and one short sighted eye, so the glasses help him to use both eyes at the same time. But it hasn't completely sorted the problem.
Good luck with sorting out DD1 with reading. sometimes its just finding the right series of books...

Interesting!
I had a similar eye problem years ago when I first started wearing glasses. According to my last eye test they are now almost the same as each other so I don't know if the glasses have helped or if it is an age thing.:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -
It feels like DD1 has had every test invented but doesn't quite fail any of them. Her vision is OK, shes not dyslexic enough to be classed as dyslexic, her hearing wasn't ever bad enough for surgery but didn't improve as fast as they kept telling us it would with growth, her balance isn't great but she scores too high on the tests to be clased as dyspraxic or to qualify for anything other than trampolining lessons (which I declined on the grounds that missing several months worth of maths lessons at school would be more problematic) and handwriting classes which vaguely helped with seated posture, pen grip and speed. Throw in the bed-wetting which I'm also assured she'll grow out of eventually and its like DD1 is an 11 year old trapped in the shell of a 7 year old but at least she is progressing albeit at her own rate.

Spent yesterday morning digging holes and compacting earth before endlessly filling the cement mixer. Now have a concrete base on which OH can finally install his log store. More astoundingly its paw print free thanks to a cearefully constructed barrier of assorted garden furniture and random debris.
Managed to squeeze in some ironing, a spot of vacuuming, some sweeping and rather a lot of mopping before vegging on the sofa with OHs DS and completeing Jewel Quest Expeditions in a smidgen over an hour, would be gutted had I spent £20 purchasing it.
Went to watch the DDs at Aikido. It appears I have daughters with attitude. DD2 was the smallest there by quite a long way but that didn't stop her taking a baseball bat to the instructor before leaving him in a heap on the floor and her in fits of giggles. Its surprisingly ballet like in its moves which seem rather fluid and are quite nice to watch... unlike the cool down game of dodge ball which made a roomful of testostrone crazed men look like !!!!! cats. It goes a long way to explaining the many random bruises that appear on a Saturday morning.
Plans for today are about as hectic as it gets. Was hoping to get an hour in on the Wii but am more inclined to sit on my bum doing nowt whilst the house is peaceful. Will be getting v. wet at the riding school before squeezing in a trip to Mr Ts to blow a £4 off a £30 spend voucher before it expires tomorrow. Need to go to school to do the final clean of holiday club and polish the hall floor, again both things that can wait until tomorrow if I'm really not in the mood. Quite fancy a day of lounging around doing very little but I'd enjoy it more if I didn't know I was avoiding things in order to do it.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500
