To install or not to install.............

..........that is the question.
Regarding o2. Just set-up broadband with them and on the installer CD there's some kind of 'Broadband Help' program. Should I install this or is it likely to slow down my computer or something like that?
Secondly, how can I find out if I'm on LLU (as it doesn't mention anything on the letter or router package I was sent)?

Regarding the software, id leave it alone if you ca get everything setup yourself, you could always install it and see if it helps and if it does help or if its not much you could just remove it0

If you have signed up to o2 Access at £17.50/£22.50 month then you are NOT on LLU but on a BTwholesale ADSLmax package.
Otherwise you can log into the www.o2.co.uk website then My Broadband Account and look there which would show Standard/Premium/Pro - ie the LLU ones that are the excellent VFM ones (whereas o2 Access is more the runt of the litter, but should be quite satisfactory if you aren't a heavy user) - all have a 30-day Happiness Guarantee in case you don't like what you do get!
Worth checking out the ThinkBroadband o2 forum for future reference/support/moans/groans/praise

You don't NEED any of the software as the o2 Box should sort itself out BUT if you are a computing "innocent" then the software on the o2 CD can be very helpful in getting you set up including how to do the wiring, checking everything is working for you etc. It also includes the free McAfee Security software/licence you're entitled to - some people like it, others dont BUT don't use it as well as another (eg Norton/Symantec or McAfee or AVG).

Oh, I installed the McAfee (as the version I had was a trial version that hadn't been updated for well over a year). Then after the computer re-start I decided to quit the rest of the installation. I remember having broadband medic on NTL/Virgin and that seemed a waste of time back then - so I presumed the O2 thing would have been something similar.Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0 -
I don't know about the latest disc (3.1 I think) but on my 1.0 disc (which they got me to use today to fix a McAfee validation issue) the install of McAfee goes on to install the o2 Broadband Assistant which as you expect = usually surplus to any requirements yet using some resources and potentially offering a backdoor for intrusion. If I was you I would check installed Programs in Windows' Control Panel and uninstall o2 Broadband Assistant if it's there (I did).0
