  • Am I'm coming to the end of my current contract, decided to look at some smartphones too.

Initially was looking at the Bold 9700 or the Storm 2. The Bold has a better keyboard and seems overall more refined, but the touchscreen on the Storm 2 means you get more screenspace overall, making it much better for web browsing, maps, displaying long messages, etc.

What turned me off was the need to pay an extra £5 a month just to use the BIS servers for accessing email, blackberry messenger, etc.

I'm now looking at getting an Android-based phone; probably the T-Mobile G2 Touch, which is pretty much just a T-Mobile branded HTC Hero.

I am wanting to get away from touch screens, the Tocco has scarred me for life! However, the most important thing for me is that I am with Orange and its a poor signal here and I am wanting a phone that will jump onto the wireless network at home so I am limited. I dont want to jump providers because I will get a better deal with Orange rather than jump to Voda.

Up to that point i agreed, but the last comment is wrong. Comparing the 8520 to a 9700 is ridiculous.

Just get the 9700. It's cheap, can be had fod br as little as £25/£30 on orange if you ask and thats a new connection.. with 1200 mins, unlimted bb services/internet etc. It'll do the job for at least 18 months and it'll do it well... comes with a lot of good accessories such as the hostly case (which doesn't come with the 8520), and the trackpad is pretty hard to break.. plus is feels solid and has gps, 3g is a must if you have the internet.. it's noticably faster (i have an 8520 and 9700).

btw, i disagree with banger in that the screen res is HIGHLY noticable. It's one of the main things that differentiates the 8520 as a disposable cheap phone and the 9700 as a high quality computer phone. 8520's screen looks like that from a nintendo gameboy whilst the 9700's screen looks like that from a laptop.
