Card protection plan

I've been looking through some of my old credit card statements. Each month they have drawn money out for "card protection plan". What is this? I'm pretty sure I never asked for it to be applied to my cards. This may be the time period after I asked them to remove PPI's etc. I can't really remember without looking through my notes.
Can I do anything about these charges?? How many years back can I go if I can claim these charges back?
Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi there

In regards of the charges, I'm sure its 6 years, if you still have the information, account number then in regards of the protection plan ask them to send you the policy details if you no longer have these, or ring to check on what this includes.

I may be wrong but maybe its not the ppi, but another sort of protection, check on this and take it from there.

If PPI I know with any reasons you may have, if mis sold then your entitled to try to reclaim, there is no actual timescale as such with this one really but it does help to have the account details.

    For more on reclaiming ppi:

And please feel free to post on the PPI reclaiming thread here for any help you may require:

The charges side your in the right threads here, good luck.:)

Excellent. Thanks for the help. I have found quite a few old statements that I have these charges on them. I know for a fact I didn't ask for them. This will help me a lot.

    Your very welcome.;)

When you write to them to reclaim on the protection, give your reasons, they have 8 weeks to respond in full, I would also post by recorded delivery for your proof of posting.
The loan insurance link I posted in my above post is very helpful, with template letters to guide you through and also check out the other reasons that may also apply to you.

Of course like with any protection if you did not request for this and they added this automatically, then you have the right to make a reclaim.

In regards of the charges side of it I'm sure you will get some help from this thread here, but best to keep the protection side of it separate to those of the charges.

Hope this helps, please keep us posted.:)

I've done a calculation based on the statements I still have and it looks like on 2 cards I paid PPI/CPP to the sum of £1160. The problem is I only noticed the PPI thing again in 2005. I'd got them to remove it when I first got the cards, but it seems they put it on them while I was at University.
I had totally cleared my cards and had some savings before I started uni, but due to problems with grants and fees I started using the cards. Although I was also working I wasn't earning enough to pay my cards, so had asked my dad to pay the minimums until I started working again (which he agreed to - now paid all back!) and didn't even really look at the statements until I finished uni.

One of the cards I cancelled a few years ago. Will I be able to claim on it?
The other card I have cleared, will I be able to still use it if I need to once I have made a claim?
I have another card with the same bank, will making a claim effect that credit card?
How far back can I claim from? These charges are from 2001 to 2005.
I will definitely make sure I post it by recorded delivery. Do I need to send in all the statements or will they work it all out should they decide to pay?
I know I should have dealt with this before but I've kind of had my head in the sand about it til now.

    Hi there

That is fine, you have a good case it seems, if you were a student and not working no more that 16 hours I believe it is, then you would not have eligible to make a claim, for example, sickness/unemployment and so on.

When you write your reclaim letter I would also complain about the fact that you cancelled and you now realise you were still paying for this (maybe they did not actually remove it).
If mis sold on 2 of the credit cards with ppi with the same bank, then keep to the same letter, if all reasons were the same for both, or if for different reasons you could write about the first one above with your reasons and the last part of the 2nd credit card ppi with your reasons, to save money with posting them. (Or just enclose 2 letters in one envelope - either way).

It does not matter if they are still active or cancelled/settled, they should refund you if successful all you have paid in ppi, plus interest, I would also request they pay you 8% interest of what a court would award on top of that again.

I reclaimed on one of mine going back to 2001, you will be okay here, banks were governed by GISC prior to when the FSA taken over in Jan 2005, so if they did not resolve in your favour, then you can always take them to the financial ombudsman service (FOS) who will be able to investigate as these were covered by these regulators.

Personally its up to you if you want to send them anything, but do not send any originals, copies only will do.
They may only hold your info going back as far as 6 years, but as you still have the info/statements - then in your case you could enclose copies of these so they have something to work by.
Do not worry about writing the amounts down, they should work this out with the info they have and with what copies you provide them with.

Hope this helps, keep at them and ask for help when required, good luck.:);)

I was working when I got the credit cards originally, and I am sure the PPI was removed from the cards at least for a time as I do remember seeing the statements (I no longer have them/can't locate them). It's possible they had renamed it something else though...Either way I knew I wouldn't be claiming anything while at uni and since leaving uni knew also that I would not be claiming benefits so paying it would have been pointless.
I also suspect I don't have the original agreements/ copies of them. Will this make a difference? I do have the first statements from the cards when I opened them somewhere.

I may be being a bit dense here but what do you mean by "keep to the same letter" (its been a long day today!)?

Also, when I got the credit cards originally it was with TSB, before they merged with Lloyds - would this make a difference? I don't remember signing for PPI in the first place.

    Hi

    Sorry I should have explained.

If you were mis sold for the same reasons on both Credit Card's with the PPI, then you can write about them both on the one letter, just remember to enclose both account numbers for each one.

If there were different reasons for being mis sold, then separate the letters.

Your not dense, I should have explained it more clearer to you lol.:D;)

It makes no difference at all to what I know of.

I took out both credit cards at the same time, which was over 14 years ago. They were my first cards so I have no idea what the bank staff had said. My memory is poor. I used to keep copious notes on phone conversations with companies (as I do now), but if I saw them face to face often I wouldn't. I certainly would have been unaware of extra charges (besides interest and fees which I would have agreed to), as I remember asking them to cancel it and noticing on my bills that the charge was removed. When it returned I was unaware of it.
One of the problems I have is we moved recently so I threw away some things/ have other things in storage so can't get to all my notes/ statements easily.
    I appreciate the help.

One of my fears is that they will take away access to the cards that I have left as I may need them in an emergency. Does anyone have experience of this after claiming for PPI loss?

I've sent off a letter to the card company asking them for a full list of insurance charges applied to my accounts. The 40 days time period required by law - is that 40 working days or can I include weekends?
