Proprietary anything is just an expensive and needless hassle in my opinion. Why buy Apple when there are cheaper, drag & drop alternatives with better SQ.

God I hope I have not started an argument! Apologies for not coming back sooner, I have been at work until 9pm.

Basically what I am looking for is something, either an ipod or something similar, onto which I can download talking books and podcasts. I don't want to view anything like videos, music would be good to be able to download as well, but nothing too technical!

I want to be able to download books from different sources, or websites I suppose as well.

    Thanks.

    Hi
In post #15 an iPod Nano was mentioned.
In post #16 a Sansa Clip was mentioned.
    That's all so far.
Maybe check them out on the web.
Or find out which type of iPod your friend uses.

I agree with this comment. Best way to get things done is to find someone who already uses something and you can get to help you on using the device. The best thing would be if you get a friend or someone else exited about helping you. No device is better than help from another human being. :)

alyth you haven't started an argument. The other 2 have given you good advice.

I know you want to do it alone but even technical people get help from someone else. Though the kind of help does vary greatly.

I'm not sure if I'm just making a total !!! of myself here, but does kindle play audio books or any audio files? The thing was that she wanted a device, that could get the audio to work easily and not to actually read from the device.

I just thought that kindle can't really do those things :A

I agree & think diable has misunderstood the OP's requirements i.e. for Audio Books, not electronic books

  • I use Itunes to upload/download audio books and find it really easy to use. I'm well over 40!! My son talked me through it the first time and then I was fine.

I use an Ipod shuffle as that's what he bought me. I like it because it clips onto my collar and doesn't get the earphones wire tangled. However, it only holds about 4/5 hours worth of audio. Also, it doesn't tell you which track you are on which, if you are studying might be useful.

I think therefore you would be better off with an ipod nano or similar. Feel free to send a pm if you want.
