Coloured tyres...

  • The really worrying thing is that the owners can't see a bald tyre staring at them what hope the rest of the car.

Then the questions that follow, ''i've been quoted £150 a corner for the 18" low profile's i specified when my car was new, are these Chinese tyres at ten bob a corner as good?''

    it's bizzare.

sad truth is most knackered tyres are on decent looking motors driven by decent looking people.
Yep when you park alongside cars in the supermarket, have a glance when you get out. Bald tyres are usually on half-decent cars - presumably they do high miles and don't know how to check them.

Or how about cars that drive and maintain themselves entirely? So we can't enjoy proper old fashioned car ownership and all that comes with it at all? :p

But the idea about the tyres would be pretty good! It would also make it easier for the police to spot.

    I don't know how to check them:o

    I wouldn't have a clue:o

I get it into my head now & then my tyres are bald & get DH to check them, he says I always have more tread than any police car thats stopping me would:)

All it is is basically how deep the grooves between the tread are if you see what I mean. Legal minimum is 1.6mm, around the central 3/4 of the tyre, but its best to change before then, at 2 or 3mm I think.

Here you are MrsE, this is about the only pic I could find that explains it....when the tyre's worn down to the indictor, it's time to change it...

Mine are like tractor tyres, there are massive groves.

get a mechanic friend or someone who wont patronise you to show you how to do it. It does take more than a couple minutes to check tread depth and tyre pressure

Do you have to look at each & every one of those tread indicators?

I'm guessing they are replicated around the tyre?

    Then stop worrying. :p
4x4 tyres will be more like that than regular tyres anyway.
