Network shops vs High Street Shops

Quick question, I've always bought my contract phone from a network provider (infact its always been o2) but I'm looking at a new contract as my old one has expired but when talking to o2 they were not offering any discounts to their Web site. Speaking to Orange they weren't able to compete against the high street shops but slagged them off when I said they offer better deals. Are the high streets stores reliable/honest (cash backs etc) ? If so, which are the best ?

    Cashback
    - reas the articles that are linked at the top of this page.

The high street shops are pretty decent TBF, but the real bargains are to be had by calling up the online websites...

    affordablmobiles.co.uk
    e2save.com
    buymobilephones.net
    phoneboxmobiles.co.uk

Many of these sites are supplied by high street stores, for example e2 save are affiliated to CPW so they get all of their exclusive phones.

The trick is to know what you want and ring up saying something like,
'Orange offered me x deal, can you match or better it?'....

Good thing with these sites is you can often get unlocked phones that are not offered on your network...

I've dealt with e2save before and they were fiarly good.... when they try and charge you £5 for delivery, tell them you wont pay and you'll cancel the whole deal if they try and charge you, they will waive the fee.

Cashback, well I've never had it and probably never will, ask for a discount on your tariff instead, they may say they cant do that, but they are telling you fibs...

if you do go with cashback, go with auto, you'll get less cash, but itll be easier

    Thanks for the info daggy.

Are there options that the networks can offer over the shops or does the high street offer the same facilities. Talking to the networks (o2 & Orange) they were discouraging of the high street - was that just sour grapes or do they have a point ?
