PAYG in France?

We are going to France later this year with another family.

We will probably be making lots of calls to each other and wonder what is the best way to do this.

We have unlocked mobile phones on Orange PAYG here and wonder if we could buy a local French PAYG service in France?

Would this be cheaper than using our UK numbers?

We aren't bothered about anyone else being able to contact us whilst we are away.

I would suggest something like Auchan as it gives you more credit for the initial purchase. You will probably need a passport/ID to buy one plus maybe an address (I've always used a residential French address so not sure if a hotel is OK). Depending on how good your French is I would suggest asking the assistant to activate the SIM and top-up if you think you need more credit.

Having said all that, at 11p per text using UK phones it is a reasonable cost if you can hold off the chat.

Possibly a french thing as you can get free sims from orange without a passport, unless you can find a better deal

Not sure how you are getting there but when we went by car with our friends we bought walkie talkies so kept in touch in the cars that way.
