Can't Edit Lloyds D/D reference

I have a current account with Lloyds TSB and have set up a payment to pay someone every 3 months.
I have to use a different reference number each time I pay but once the Payment is set up there is no option to amend the reference.
I have to cancel the Payment and make a new one each time, this seems ridiculous or am I missing something here?

the DD is set up by the 'some-one'
if they want to change the reference then they will have to do this.. you can't do it.
all seems a bit odd; are you sure about this?0 -

A few banks do this. The reason is probably fraud prevention. Whilst most account and sort code numbers are linked to one account, this is not always the case (e.g. some building societies). If you are able to change the reference on an existing payee where the reference field is actually the underlying account number, this potentially allows someone who has hacked your online account to transfer the funds to an account that was not already in your payees list without your knowledge (hope that makes sense!).
Hence Lloyds TSB require you to set up a new payee if a reference field change is required, which triggers the security check (automated telephone call).0 -

Ah yes, never thought about that, A&L are one of those banks, the reference number is actually your account number, so what you are saying makes sense.
So looks like I will just have to add a new payee each time then.0
