Transferring broadband providers

I've recently decided to switch from NTL Freedom which gives me 512k broadband for £17.99 per month on my BT line to Demon which will give me 8mb uncapped for £19.99 per month. However, when I rang demon to give them my MAC code they said that my MAC code was unusuable as it is a BBDS code not a BBIP code and that I should ring NTL for one.
When I rang NTL for a BBIP code they said that they only provide a BBDS code as they dont do BBIP and told me to complain to OFCOM if Demon didn't accept it, Demon have told me to call back after the weekend as their new connections department were closed.
What if Demon insist they need a BBIP and NTL will only give BBDS? Where does that leave me, do I really have to go to OFCOM for a simple switch for providers, never done a switch before so don't know what to expect, thanks for any advice in advance.

Well they're the two products which BT Wholesale offers their customers. IPStream & Datastream (IP & DS). About 95% of the customers that BTW has business with uses the IPStream products, NTL being in one of the 5% that doesnt & use datastream. AFAIK theres no way to migrate between the two products as of yet.
If Demon don't accept it, then what you'll need to do is contact NTL to get a cease of the broadband on the line & then get it re-provided by Demon.
Ofcom wont be able to do anything, as much as they're a regulator they will only take cases on once you've exhausted the relevant companies complaints system.0 -
actually - you can migrate from DS to IP... its been around for about a year now, and many Tiscali (DS) users have migrated as a result.... maybe demon just doesn't like you, or the person you spoke to was confused . . .0
