Debt and Secrecy

As far as I can see, no-one has suggested to Margaret that she defaults. Freezing interest and opening a new bank account are standard practice when going into a debt management plan as far as I'm aware. I think you might have misunderstood something. It's important not to confuse Margaret at this crucial stage.james23_uk wrote:God knows who told you to do that, but what a load of balls! No way should you stop making repayments on credit unless you are in financial hardship and cannot afford to pay it back. It'll totally muck up any decent morgage
offer for years if you default.
Margaret, you really do have to share this with your OH. No good can come of trying to conceal it any longer. It will make you ill, and he's going to find out soon anyway.
Good luck, and keep posting.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0 -
I agree with Newleaf, going onto a DMP with CCCS will create a default on her accounts as she will nolonger be paying contractual payments that's why it called Debt Management. It will affect her credit score so if they are serious about remortaging.moving the husband should really be told before she enters into a DMP.Moved to Denmark for FIRE by Aug 2025 “May your decisions reflect your hopes not your fears”

At no point does she say she's struggling with repaying debts. If she is then that's totally different. I thought the problem was about telling her husband rather than sturggling to pay. Perhaps you can clarify Margaret?
Sorry if I misunderstood.Debt as at 12th July 2006 - £61,345

To be fair to James, he was only quoting what Margaret said in her first post. Good advice from him, which the rest of us missed. She would be unlikely to get a mortgage if she was on a DMP with interest frozen etc. So margaret you need to come clean to your OH and work out the best options for you before you contact any creditors.:grouphug: Things can only get better.0
