hi, i've got a advent laptop thats about 4 years old and worked fine til recently the bios battery died.
i replaced it and everything seemed fine but now the usb port wont pick up anything plugged into it.
its sending power into items (such as my infra mouse lights up) but it doesn't attempt to even install them..
any ideas.
its running windows me, all up to date and nothing in the bios helps..

does your mouse come with any drivers or did you download any drivers before?0

I had problems getting ADVENT drivers some time ago, the windows update service managed to get them,
I did have a trackball mouse and had to use a cordless mouse, It displays all the lights but would not move the pointer! possibly much the same problem
anyway when I looked at the mouse settings it was still for the trackball mouse and needed changing to the cordless one
hope this helps0 -
Just Backup you files and restore the machine with the original disks id put money on it will workIf it doesn't fit, force it; if it breaks, it needed replacement anywaySarcasm helps keep you from telling people what you really think of them

does the USB show as working in Hardware ??
under control panel, system, then Hardware, then device manager then expand the USB Controllers to see if any have a yellow exclamation mark
no need to look at a restore at this early pointEx forum ambassador

sorry spurs you'd have lost your money !!
i've installed all the drivers for my mouse and everything, plugged the mouse into the port and the bottom is lighting up but the laptop isn't trying to install it, so power is going through the port but its like its not picking anything up, so what i'm trying to say it power is transfering out but nothings going in :O(0 -
Brown, its there and present without any problems... just not working :O(0

Is there a Plug&Play option in the BIOS that needs to be enabled? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I take it you have checked that it is enabled in Bios ??Ex forum ambassador

I agree with EXPRESSO and check the BIOS settings,
as you did lose the BIOS battery, it may have gone back to default settings.
another option could be to check and update the BIOS,
but this is pretty extreme, and is not for the faint hearted especially with a ADVENT0 -
checked the bios, nothing in there that helps.. and would upgrade the bios but haven't got a clue where to get the up date from0
