We have little birds nesting in the fir trees in the front garden and wood pidgeons nesting in the back garden somewhere.:)

We also have something eating my bizzy lizzies:( Any ideas? They/ it only seem to like the bizzy lizzies and leave the other bedding plants alone.

I have been noticing a lot more birdsong than usual recently. I had thought it was just me? Seems some of you may be noticing it?

Last night, quite late, was out in the garden & could hear a frog chorus (not the nccartney song before anyone makes the joke!)

I spent a long time watching a bird on next doors ariel singing. I could see its little beak opening, & was amazed at the volume for such a little thing.

Unfortunatelt I was planting beans & sprouts out this weekend, & my back is now a poorly one. Struggling today...:(

Make sure you take care of your back today.

Can't get loader than it is here. I can't recognise bird song, but there is a bird her who sings ''Little Birdy, little birrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrdy'' which makes us laugh, and some birds who make the same noise as the telephone, very annoying. Also, they love the noise the chicks make when alarmed, and copy that, which keeps me on my toes, hopping in and out to see how the chicks are.

Oh I assure you lir I will be most careful! I have a bowls match tonight, so need to move around as much as possible to increase my mobility to play.

I love the sounds of birdsong. One of the lovliest things to listen to in the early hours, or evening whilst enjoying the garden.

An update on our wheelie bin with a nest of little fledglings. Things have changed. There is now one large fledgling filling the whole nest. I'm not sure I like nature.

Do you think you might have a cuckoo chick? That would be kind of cool, although the cuckoos in my area drive me crazy. ( it's nice the first time you hear it each year, but it's pretty annoying when it's going cuckoo cuckoo cuckoo at 4am in the morning, for hours).

There are no cuckoos around here AFAIK. We hear 'sort of cuckoo' noises, but I'm told that those are from wood pigeons. TBH, I have no idea. Can anyone confirm please? I don't have very good eyesight and I only got glasses when about 11, so I never developed any interest in birds when young, as I couldn't see them!

Far fewer urban foxes than last year. I expect the winter was very hard on them. It's odd that the birds seem to have done better than the foxes. Also, I thought foxes in the city would have a pretty constant source of food from our leftovers, but I must be wrong there.

Wood pigeons do sound how I imagine cuckoos would sound, but not so melodic.

I've not heard a cuckoo in years....

Good Lord, what have they done to this site????

Errr...I think it looks rather attractive. Did they do all that in the time I took to do the watering? (OK, and have tea & biscuits chat to people etc etc.) Impressed. :)

    Same old smilies though! :(:(

I've gone back to the old view (in fact it never changed to the new view for me but I switched it over to have a look). To me the old view is clearer, but choice is always a great thing!

Can I ask you Davesnave, as I haven't been keeping up, are you earning a living from your smallholding yet? If not, do you still have paid work, and how long will it be before you are self-sufficient - assuming that's your aim?
