I decided to leave my present employment the nano-second my boss threatened me (in the nicest possible way). My branch has been cut to the bone during the recession, which is fair enough, but we are outperforming far bigger branches profit wise.

I said I needed more staffing hours during the busy summer months due to the increases in business and she pretty much told me to !!!! off. She said the only way to get more help was to cut existing hours and how did I fancy dropping to part time?

She wasn't serious but fu ck was I furious. Don't ever talk to a travelling lass as if she was an idiot.

So I regrouped and thought about what I really wanted to do with the rest of my life and it isn't this.

I complain constantly about money but really it isn't the problem.

I have applied for a job with "transferable skills". It pays less than I earn now but I would be working for a charity.

does your book advance make up the shortfall?

Are you writing it now? How have you dealt with family?

Can I just add that you should always dress in pretty smart clothes. We have a very relaxed dress policy at work but the worst thing is for a candidate to show up without at least smart clothes.

I have decided to lie. Hey it may not work but I can hope....

I have been writing and rehashing and trying desperately to come up with something worthy (Christ that makes me sound sad and pathetic) of my Da and my culture. Which is why I haven't been online a huge amount.

The book advance more than makes up the shortfall although that pre-supposes I can deliver a bliddy book

    Viva's advice is excellent.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

How do you work out if you will fit in though?

I am really tired of working for [STRIKE]companies[/STRIKE] people with different moral values from mine.

How do I avoid making the same auld mistakes?

Welcome! Please don't suppress your inner niceness any more! This is a great place to let all your niceness out, in the company of others so all the niceness can kind of blend into a niceness soup. Or something.

    Oh well, welcome, anyway... :)
