  • We shop mostly at Sainsbury's (online) and anything not in the weekly shop Tesco's as it's just down the road. Definately find Sainsbury's more expensive than Tesco's as we used to your Tesco's for online too but their deliveries were rubbish so stopped.

However: With a years worth of nectar points on our main shopping (plus electricity, petrol and homebase) we now have enough points to get £57.50 worth of stuff according to our statement

With our 'occasional' shopping at Tesco's (over 18 months though) we have just booked 2 nights B&B at the 5* Bath Spa Hotel in Bath worth £340 because on the deals every 100 points is worth £4 with clubcard deals.

We are actually seriously considering shopping full time at Tesco's again as we're shocked at how little Nectar gets you. A good comparison:

    Merlin Annual Pass:
    Sainsburys: 15000 Nectar points = £7500 spend
    Tesco's: £37.50 of clubcard points = £3750 spend

So with our statement, it looks like we've spent £5500 at Sainsbury's in the last year which for hotels through Expedia will be worth £55. Had we spent that £5500 at Tesco's it would be worth £220.

I prefer shopping in Tesco mainly because of the size of the store, the biggest Sainsbury's near me is nowehere near as big as my local Mr T. Because it's smaller, Sainsburys seem to be focussing mainly on their more expensive lines too so you can't always get Basics with there not being as much room on the shelves whereas Mr T will nearly always have a Value choice IYSWIM. For the actual product quality and price though I'd always go to Sainsburys.

I much prefer Sainsbury's for quality and for the things I buy they are usually cheaper than Tesco too. I did fall into the habit of popping into Tesco often to do my shopping as there is one right next to the gym I use but I got so sick of the poor customer service I decided to "boycott" and see if I noticed a difference, we certainly have - am spending far less now and much happier too when there is an issue as my Sainsbury's deal with it quickly and happily.

I find the nectar points rack up fairly quickly, I like to save them towards christmas from the autumn or usually spend them in Blockbuster on dvd rentals.

Sainsbury's basics biscuits are all scrummy!
  • Although Sainsburys can work out more expensive sometimes, at least the bill is usually correct which is more than you can say for Tesco - although we do sometimes benefit with DTD. I don't always feel up to rows and lots of time wasted stood at Customer Services desk in Tesco.

OH would have us shop at Sainsbury.

I am the shopper though, so it's Tesco all the way for us. We do use our clubcard points on the extras, so it's a no brainer in my eyes. Our Tesco is also VERY large, so love the extra choice of products compared to Sainsburys.

We went on a daytrip last year to Weston and stopped in a lovely Waitrose to buy a packed tea for the journey home...not considering there?!

That Waitrose replaced our Iceland!!! Now we don't have an Iceland in Weston :(. I'd like to shop at Waitrose, if it wasn't so expensive....and if they had some sort of loyalty system.

We have just got one and there are some really good things in Waitrose which is worth mentioning:

    1. If you sign up to their auto scanner you can scan and pack your shopping before you pay. This does a couple of things- allows me to keep an eye on my spending and also the machine alerts you to any special offers on the products you are buying also you get the delicious waitrose food illustrated free which i love for the recipes
    2. I suppose it depends on what you buy and when you buy, but I find waitrose cheaper as you can get a small piece of cheese or a small piece of meat for one or two and not have to waste a whole load of meat you will never eat- well me anyway. Also their reduced stuff is brilliant and their essentials range is lovely- a really nice range at a discount price.

We always shop at Waitrose now even though it is quite a small one (Ringwood). Far superior to the rest.

There is a Sainsbury nearby to cater for the hoi polloi.;)

Sainsburys do a similar self-scanning thing AFAIK.

As for meat - I always go to the butcher. Its cheaper, and I can get the amount I need.
