Tesco VS Sainsburys?

I shop at Tesco mainly and occasionaly at Sainsburys.
Sainsburys often have good offers on some items, but some others are weeeel overpriced. At Sainsburys you cannot get cheap tomatoes for example, where it is one of the "loss leaders" at Tesco.
So I do both. Tesco more, because the Sainsburys here is awfull (I never manage to buy any nice fruit there!!) and we have nice huge Tesco. But the Sainsburys is next door to TK Maxx:D0 -
Good idea about saving a penny per £ in the shop!
I wasn't aware that Sainsburys Basics were better than value products in Tesco, I'll certainly use more of those products now.
As for comments regarding turning Tesco points into other activities, I don't do that. I use it purely for shopping, hence my concern about the value of nectar points in comparison.
Think I'm wavering more to Sainsburys though - seems the better option.0 -

Why would you do that?
That is the worst way to spend them.
If you only spend it on groceries, then once the double points at Tesco's are finished the points will be worth the same
You will get 1 point per £1 at Tesco's and point being worth 1p off
2 points per £1 at Sainsburys but point being worth 0.5p off shopping.
But why????:eek:0 -
Any - I have no interest in activities I'm afraid. Each nectar point is worth 0.5p afaik - so 2 points are worth 1p, which will be the same as Tesco when they have finished double points.
So with Tesco currently being on double points, you get more money back. That was my concern with changing to Sainsburys. Of course, when double points ends, there will be no issue (if Sainsburys continues offering 2 points per £).0 -

Not even restaurants or travel? There aren't just activities, I have no kids so I cannot be asked with activities, but I go to Pizza Express regularly and you get £10 for Pizza Express (and other restaurants) for every £2.50 of Tesco vouchers.0 -

No point using the points to get things you have no need or use for especially if you don't get that many points in a year.I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -
Because for some of us Tecopoli have not got anything to use the points on in any other way.

Spot on! I'm not fussed on eating out really, happy to cook something nice at home. Therefore I'd rather get the money off my shopping...0 -
I have all three large supermarkets in close proximity and it's Sainsburys for me every time - even though it could fit twice over into the two Tesco's nearby. I find the fruit and veg much better and overall the quality of food is superior including their basics range - and especially their curry and cooked chicken counters. And I find customer service better in Sainsburys too.
I do collect the Tesco points and use them for vouchers. Nectar points I build up until I have enough to take £2.50 off my shopping. Tesco points are so much easier.
By the way - don't know if i should mention it here or whether it's been listed anywhere else but Tesco take the farm foods vouchers. I stood my ground by the till for ten minutes whilst someone checked.0 -
I would use https://www.mysupermarket.com it compares the prices and you can print off a shopping list which gives the list of the most current offers. I must say i do like sainsburys but was surprised at the value of morissons. Better than I had thought it would be! Will be back there soon!Feb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790
