Norton or Virgin Security

Options
When I got my laptop I got 60 days free norton which ran out today. I have the free one with my virgin broadband security. I can got sophos free through work.

Is it worth renewing norton? Or is just using the Virgin ok, or should I upgrade to the total security package?

Any ideas?

thanks

    I prefer Norton and have found the 2010 to be a great version compared to some of their earlier ones that were serious resource hogs. Worth every penny to ensure you are secure

    Better to pay for security and keep your financial services, etc safe, than have a free or cheap security and lose all your money. You get what you pay for - no such thing as a free lunch you know

    We hated Norton, as it slowed our computers down so much. We've had a couple of versions over the years, and the performance just wasn't acceptable.

    I've had Virgin PCguard now for a year or so-first paying £3 a month, then getting it included when I rang up and negotiated a cheaper deal.

    I won't say it's perfect. We've had a couple of things get through, but that was the same with Norton. And McAfee. And Kaspersky. And it does seem to run quite happily alongside the freebies, so you can belt and braces without the computer throwing a fit.

    It's not lightning fast, either, but it doesn't destroy your computer's performance like Norton.
    import this

    Blimey - outdated advice or what

    As I said - Norton 2010 has sorted the resource hog issues and scores top in most security tests - the question is - do we go cheap on security ?

    For a free product it is good http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/software/352417/microsoft-security-essentials
    But as they say at the end, don't use it as a replacement for a decent paid for security program. I know this web site is about saving money, but saving all your money from going to nigeria is worth paying for in my personal opinion.

    I try to help people on here rather than just go out attacking them - do you always get so angry at people trying to help others ?
