Co-Op membership

Sorry - didn't know where to post this!

I shop at the Co-Op quite a lot as it's our 'local' shop and I see signs for Co-Op Membership card - is this a loyalty card where you hand it over with your purchases & collect points (but get profit share instead) or is it a credit card (don't want!).

I'm obviously not very bright as I don't understand the website either and the staff are always too busy to ask!

Can someone explain pls :o

You just hand the card over every time you make a purchase and collect the points. These are added up, converted into pennies and paid into your bank account quarterly.

edit, just checked it's paid twice a year.

It's a loyalty card. You get a share of the profits based on how much you shop there twice a year (December and June). If you have bank accounts and other similar things you can also earn points there.

You can either have money paid directly into your bank account or they can send you vouchers. If you get vouchers you can use them to pay for your shopping, use them to pay for some shopping and get change, or just convert them into cash.

    I thought the vouchers stopped?
I may be wrong but last year I had a letter saying I had to be paid into my bank account. Different regions different rules maybe?

Do bear in mind that the Co-operative has a few different regions - I live in Leicestershire and we are part of the Midlands Co-op which is different to the Co-op which covers much of the rest of the country. I cannot use my Midlands Co-op membership in the Co-operative Pharmacy, or receive any benefits from having an account with the Co-operative Bank or an insurance policy with CIS - all of which belong to a different Co-operative society. To benefit from these products I have to also have a yellow Co-operative Membership card.

One of our pharmacies in Market Harborough was bought up my the Co-operative Pharmacy and the staff were quite excited as they had been told they could get discount in the Co-op food stores. However it turned out that didn't apply to the Midlands Co-op - just round the corner. They would have to travel many miles to avail themselves of the discount at a non-Midlands Co-op.

Not quite as straightforward as you might think.

Hmmm, doesn't state any of that on the website! I'm guessing if the Midlands co-op covers 'the Midlands' then that would be the situation for me too - though I'm the other side than you are.

It is the same for me. Our department store has changed regions meaning payments take longer.
