does anyone know if you can transfer recorded items onto a new box. We have a recording of the news which our children were on a few years back & would like to keep it.
For a permanent solution? Best to buy/beg/borrow a DVD recorder and transfer it on to a DVD disc. If your new box fails, as mine did all recordings are lost forever0 -
In Feb I had Sky + installed. I do not have HD televisions so was little point in paying for the HD channels however Sky no longer install SKY + boxes, they only install SKY + HD boxes. I have the HD box, but just don't pay to view HD channels.
The installer said that they no longer supply sky+ boxes at all so maybe this means there will be a reduction in price for those of you who do pay for HD if they are supplying everyone with the HD boxes, or maybe it's to try and get everyone to pay seeing as they all have the HD boxes!
Either way it won't affect me as I don't really want to buy a new TV, pay extra money to have a better view on the tv, current tv quality is ok for me and I have £120 extra in my pocket every year!0 -
Sky HD doesn't 'do' 720p - as above it's broadcast at 1080i. What you're doing is squashing that picture in the SkyHD box then sending to your TV, which (if full HD) then unsquashes the picture back to 1080 lines. This will worsen the pic quality.
If you have a 1080 TV, set the sky box to output 1080. If your TV is 720, choose whatever has the better scaler to scale the pic. If the TV has a better scaler, set the Sky box to 1080, if the Sky box's is better (and I've heard it's awful) set it to 720.
And without going into technical details, I'm not sure I'd call 1080i 'half' of 1080p, but I see your point.0 -
Does anyone know the spec of these boxes. I think I'm going to go for the offer, our current Sky plus box must be getting on for 5 yrs old now. Will the newer box have bigger storage capacity? Now proud Mumto3 :j0

However if you are purchasing a sky box just to get bigger storage. google upgrade hard disk in sky+ box
Quick and easy job.

has anyone rang up and asked for this deal? am tempted to go for it myself, doesn't look like I am going to get a phone call.0

i rang up as an exisitng hd+ customer and was told that there are conditions (as expected) i.e to get free hd pack for a year, you have to take multiroom, which i think is about £10 anyway so....it's the same difference0

I called up yesterday to ask about this and was told I could have a free box but would have to pay 60 installation and 10 monthly subscription.
I decided not to bother.0 -
Any update here, has anyone else had the call from Sky, I'm still waiting......0
