Another Wescot Victim!!

Hi guys,

I've recently been sent communication by Wescot that I owe them £51.71 in relation to an O2 bill. Now I grant you it's not a lot of money but I'm still refusing to pay it on principle.

On hearing of the bill I sent them back a reply asking for a "true or fair copy" of the original bill and contract.

Today I received a reply from them asking me for my 3 previous addresses in order to prevent them breaching the Data Protection Act. Have they not already done this in contacting me out of the blue when they don't know it's me at the current address there corresponding to?

Anyway, how should I reply to them with regard to my 3 previous addresses. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and apologies if this information has already been posted (if so a link would be nice.)

Thanks guys.

The principle is that it's a debt collection agency. If the O2 themselves contact me about it and can prove that I owe it, then I will gladly pay. Currently I don't even know the dates that the bill is for.

Would you freely give money to someone acting on behalf of someone else without even a copy of the said bill?

Do you owe the money though?

Truthfully, I can't remember. I've thrown out all my O2 stuff a long time ago so have no record. That's the reason I would like to see a copy of the bill before I do anything else.

All I'm trying to find out is, am I under a legal obligation to provide my previous 3 addresses?

    Which is a 'YES' then.
Just pay it as you owe the money and get a grip!

Frankly I'm disappointed by you guys. I know most of you are good people and just want to help people but the responses I've had to my query so far have been, well - pathetic. If all you want to do is take the moral high ground, please don't post on here.
If on the other hand you want to offer any constructive advice I would be most grateful.

Constructive advice is to stop acting like a child.

You know you owe the money but intend playing silly games in the vain hope you can be seen as the victim.

I'll reiterate advice you have already been given..... GET A GRIP!

Try the Consumer Action Group if you want to join people who spend all day plotting the downfall of the debt collection industry by refusing to pay a fifty quid bill that will only have attracted commission for the company anyway.

P.S. Should this really be in the loans section?

Check your credit file, it will be a default on their.

Well that is not really the principle at all is it? It is only with the debt collector because you didn't pay 02 in the first place. And not knowing if you did or didn't, 9 times out of 10 means you did not.

You are only preventing yourself from getting further credit behaving in this way. I suggest you check your experian / equifax file (02 post on both) as no doubt there will be a shiny big default waiting for you.
