Washing Machine energy consumption?
I have been carefully monitoring our gas and electricity usage for about a month and have worked out that our washing machine (which is only 2 years old and A rated) is using 2 units of electricty for every load. This seems high to me - but am not sure. Does anybody else know how much their machine uses?

All washing machines are heavy on power but you can mitigate this by washing as cool as possible0

That sounds about right, especially if it's a cold water fill.
You'll probably be spending more per wash on washing powder than electricity.0 -
Wow, I just never realised it was so much, I usually do at least four loads a day so its really mounting up. I was blaming the dishwasher for the high bills but its the washing machine.
Thanks for the advice. 0 -
The consumption of washing machines is high because you have to power:Wow, I just never realised it was so much, I usually do at least four loads a day so its really mounting up. I was blaming the dishwasher for the high bills but its the washing machine.

2/electric motor and pump0 -
I disagree. Two kWhs is pretty high for cycle. I would expect most cycles to be well under a kWh. Are you sure this wasn't a white wash?0

My 30c wash last night took 0.76kw, plugged it in the monitor and checked for you.
What temp do you wash at? could you reduce for some loads?0 -

4 loads a day? how do you get it dried? could that be contributing to cost?0 -

Usually at 40 but the wash I measured was a 60 thinking about it

Some in the dryer but mostly hanging inside and out.
What I had also not taken into account is that its a 9kg machine, I assume that means its going to use almost twice the normal amount of power.

I have a monitor permanerntly on my washer drier and I was surprised how little electric it has actually used, I do know my PC set up is costing just over £10/month in electric
