MSE News: Scottish & Southern cuts gas prices
Comments

I'm with SSE (or rather Scottish Hydro Electricity) and it has cost be about £1200 per year. I use gas more than electricity - 60%. I am about to move house (end of April)...
With this future cut, do I stick with SSE or change provider? Does moving house and going with another supplier considered as a 'switch'? Does British Gas have a lower rate than SSE (after the reduction)?
It typically takes 4-6 weeks to switch supplier, so there's not really any point since you are moving out end of April.
When you move into the new property, you'll have to accept the current supplier(s) for that property. However, once you have accounts registered with them (which you can do on the day you move in and provide meter readings), you can then start the switching process if you so desire."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

When prices really began to rocket a couple of years ago the standard mantra trotted out by utility companies was that they buy the gas months before hand so they could not pass on the cuts. Months pass by and after yet more no/tiny cuts the period they bought the fuel stretches out to years ago. In other words it appears that they have not bought ahead any gas or oil since prices hit their peak(>$150 per barrel?). So this has lasted all this time? Yeah right!:mad:Ironic how the reduce prices after Winter just when consumption will decrease0 -
