Cat Coming In Cat Flap

Sorry to bring up an old(ish) thread, but I am having exactly the same problem!
Our old magnet catflap broke and as no other cats came in we didn't replace as it still worked as a normal catflap. Then about a year later a big Tomcat started coming through so I replaced it with a new magnet one.
This really doesn't seem to be deterring him as he just bashes his way through. I have tried spraying him with water, even following him out and making him scarper with the hosepipe, but he is back at the door within five minutes.
One of our boys, Duncan, has very poor sight so is getting quite stressed out about this and he has increased his spraying. Also, this cat sprayed on Duncan whilst Duncan was weeing outside!
Basically I need to scare this cat away but I am running out of ideas! I am up loads in the night when I hear him attacking the flap.
Both PJ & Duncan don't seem bothered by him when he comes in but my problem is that he is getting bolder and will just sit there and look at me when I get in and he has got in.
Any suggestions would be so greatfully received, as I really need to get a good nights sleep. Between this cat and my 7 month old teething I am getting so tired!0 -
Have you tried asking round your neighbours to see who the tomcat belongs to? Perhaps if they knew about the problem they could help?
The other possibility is that he may be a stray - the RSPCA will tell you to ask around and post flyers for a period of time before they will help though.
If tomcat is entire - well its that time of year when they become a downright pain in the beep! Maybe if he was neutered he would be less of a problem?I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

We had to change to a magnetic cat flap about 18 months ago. Best thing we ever did.
A massive tom cat kept helping himself to our cat food and stinking the kitchen out.
I was watching telly the one night and went into the kitchen for something and the sod was sitting on our kitchen unit!.
We had our old staywell cat flap for years and it was falling apart anyway. The one we've got is called a "cat mate".Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670 -
Magnetic flaps do fail after a while but its your solution as well. My parents flap has started to fail but only one cat had figured this out so far and we pretty much half own him now anyway. The poor thing doesn't get fed enough and spends most of his time out there house. He spent all of crimbo and new year at ours.0

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Unfortunately, we had already changed the cat flap to another magnetic Staywell, but this cat is a bit of a boxer so he smashes his way through.
I will go round the neighbours and see if we can find his owner. He doesn't look like a stray but then, he might be stealing other cat's food aswell!
Many thanks!0 -
same problem here - the bully cat is spraying in our house!! can anyone recommend what I can use to get rid of the smell?? I'm putting my house on the market shortly and the smell is sure to put people off the house! think I'm going to get another magnet cat flap as it helped last time but had a new double glazed door fitted with a cat flap that wasn't magnetic:wave:0
