Cat Coming In Cat Flap

I have another cat coming in through my cat flap and pinching my cats food and weeing in the house.

My cat is 20 and because of his age basically just lets this cat do what he wants to do.It was just happening in the nights when we were in bed so i locked the cat flap to stop it coming in but now it comes in during the day, even if i am at home.Any suggestions??I've thought of buying a magnetic cat flap but this cat is pretty big and would probably be able to force his way through.Help..

We had the same problems with an absolute monster of a cat coming into our house, peeing downstairs, and eating our own cats' food. My two were so scared they just stayed out of the way upstairs. We had to buy a magnetic cat flap in the end, and it worked a treat. Problem solved immediately. The other cat wasn't able to force his way through the new cat flap, and believe me, he was huge. Good luck !

The only other way would be to lie in wait with a water pistol , do that a few times and he won't come back..

Snap!! I have an almost 20yr old as well, I hope your's is keeping well...

    Thanks for the replies.

It looks like a magnetic catflap is the way to go. I had one of these a few years back but changed to a normal one because my cat came in one day with can ring pulls attached to the magnetic bit on his collar

But today when this cat came in it really scared him and as he's 20 he really could do without the hassle.

I like the thought of stalking it with a water pistol tho.Especially after how scared it made my cat feel this morning. That did make me laugh Petal lol.

Tanith-Yes my 20yr old is pretty fit for his age thanks.Hope yours is keeping well too.Slowing up a bit obviously just enjoys sleeping and eating and going out the garden now and again for a bit of air lol. He's just getting stressed atm with this strange cat coming in at all hours.

Suppose you can't blame the cat from coming in for free food, just really annoying. We had our other cat put to sleep 4 months ago as it was ill for quite a while, so he's missing her aswell,so he could really do without this.

I think it is the season for cats, especially Toms to be out expanding their territory and generally seeing what is on offer.
I caught a big bruiser sneaking in through my cat flap the other day...one of my oldies heard him too and it obviously stressed him as he sprayed all over the sofa later on. Cue lots of scrubbing and Feliway spray to stop that in it's tracks.
My flap is actually a magnetic one but I have not used that part for years....lost collars and magnets, cats with teaspoons and rusty nails stuck to said magnets! I am reluctant to start all that agin but if my cowardly posse cannot defend the castle then I may have to.

We had this problem awhile ago and Lily started peeing in the house through stress. I thought about a magnetic flap but I don't like collars on cats so in the end we bought a petporte microchip cat flap. They are pricey though at £100 but for us it was well worth every penny to see Lily back to her old self.

We bought our flap from here http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=44&pf_id=51010 but we have the old version that only a few places still sell.
You can get them direct from petporte website but they are more expensive.

Thanks for that Shelley.Only problem is our cat is 20 and isn't microchipped. As he's so old i don't want to stress him by taking him to the vet as he literally only goes out the back garden and in again to do his business. That catflap sounds amazing though. If he were younger or microchipped i'd definately go for that.I think i'll have to go for the maginetic one though.Am gonna get one on Monday from Argos i think. In the mean time,i'm locking the catflap at night and when i go out during the day.

Just a quick up date.Bought a magnetic cat flap as advised on this brill site and its worked a treat :j.Took my cat a bit of coaxing to come thru it as he's used to the ease of the other flap, but after a big bowl of gourmet pouch (his favourite) placed on the inside of the flap with him outside,he soon learnt to come in ok!!He's using the cat flap no problem now,and no sign of the bully cat anymore so thankyou everyone for the suggestion :T.
