Pregnant with 2nd child

Hi everyone,

I'm currently pregnant with my second child and due to start my maternity leave at the end of June :j
I work full time, and have managed to work things so I will be off all over the summer holidays and will start back at work after the christmas holidays (so no extra childcare costs for my DD, who is 7).

I've been on the phone to the Child Tax Credit People this morning and was pleased as punch to find out that they estimate when I go back to work they will give me enough to cover all my childcare costs with a wee bit left over :rotfl:

Unfortunately, for everything else, we seem to fall into the bracket that comes between being able to get lots of lovely grants for milk and stuff and actually being able to get on well without them!

I was just wondering if anyone knows of anything else that is available to people who aren't on JSA or anything like that (the only one I know about it the £190 you get at 25 weeks).

Any other tips for saving pennies with the new baby coming along would be very welcome too!

Thank you :D

I'll move you over to the benefits board as they can assist with your benefits queries :D

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!.

You could also take a look at MS in Families board where there are lots of threads on pregnancy and looking after small children.

By all means come back to Old Style, and we can help you with reducing your household spends :T This thread will help you in where to start :j

Good luck with your new arrival :A

If your award for child tax credit is higher than the family element (including any baby element) you will qualify for the Sure Start Maternity Grant. You can apply at any time between 29 weeks of pregnancy until 3 months from the birth. The award is £500 per baby expected (or born).

Between my husband and I we bring home about £35k a year.

AsknAnswer2 - many thanks for your reply. I have real difficulty understanding all the diferent aspects of the Child Tax Credit - what is the family element? Sorry for being thick - I was happy just to go along with the fact that it covered the childcare!
